RABBI KENTER'S DVAR
“…’cause it’s work, work, work, every day and every night. ‘cause it’s work, work, work, when it’s dark and when it’s light.”

These lyrics from a famous children’s Passover song are our reminder of what life was like as slaves in Egypt, the experience that we are reading about in this week’s portion. Slavery is the experience of working all the time, without breaks, without the chance to breathe, reflect, and revitalize.

We are reminded every week of the importance of taking a break from our daily grind on Shabbat, but sometimes, just one day is not enough. We need extended leaves in order to recharge and to prepare for all that comes next.

I am so grateful for all the work that the synagogue’s employees do every day and I am also grateful that our admin and maintenance teams are taking this week to reflect on the year that was and prepare for the year to come.

2021 brought all new challenges as well as new opportunities. I cannot wait to see the amazing transformations that 2022 has in store and I cannot wait to continue the great work of this synagogue in the year to come.

There are many blessings that happen in all of our lives such as the birth of a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild; the engagement or marriage of a loved one; or a promotion at work or a volunteer award.  These events lend balance to times of sadness, such as the death or illness of a loved one. We at Kehillat Beth Israel are grateful for the opportunity to share these moments with you - to be a source of community in both times of celebration and times of sorrow.

And in the spirit of gratitude, we also take this opportunity to thank the members of our community for their charitable gifts to the synagogue. We could not do the important work that we do at Kehillat Beth Israel without your generous support. We are so thankful for your continued contributions that allow us to grow and thrive. Todah Rabbah!
