February Pastor's Message
As many of you may already know, I gave my notice of retirement on January 8 at the regular, stated Session meeting. I thought I would retire sometime between May 1, and December 31, 2023 based upon CPC’s needs. Since then, I was asked by the resulting Succession Committee comprised of our current Session, Trustees and Treasurer to consider another option for staying longer at CPC. Laura and I prayed about our personal family needs and our church family needs and realized that with several adjustments, we could stay and possibly help CPC in the search for a Pastor.
After the responses and questions we heard from our congregation and the resulting Session meeting on January 29, and continuing to pray about our ministry, we have accepted the church’s call to remain through April 30, 2024 as a Certified Transitional Pastor pending the Presbytery of South Carolina’s approval. If not approved, then I would delay my retirement until May 1, 2024. Laura and I have been stunned by the loving response of our people, and we are only too happy to continue to serve and help our wonderful church family find God’s will for the future. We love you all!

“Discussions”
Sunday School Class
Sundays at 9:00 a.m.

Family Life Center
The Discussions Class will continue with Week 5 of its 2023 year on Sunday, February 5. We continue discussing a DVD titled THE CHOSEN. We explore the chronology of Jesus' personnel selections and expand the depth of their personalities. Last Sunday we got a view of the rehabilitated Mary of Magdala and an appreciation of the power of Roman authorities. This Sunday we will see a more complete characterization of a top Pharisee, Nicodemus. Please join us even if you haven't been attending.

The Better Together
Ladies Bible Study Group
The Better Together Ladies Bible study is continuing its wonderful 12- week study called "Twelve Women of the Bible: Life-Changing Stories for Women Today." This study is based on teachings from Lisa Terkeurst, Elisa Morgan, Jeanne Stevens, Amena Brown, Naomi Zachary and Jonalyn Fincher. Please feel free to bring a friend for good fellowship and being in the Word.

The Men’s Bible Study is studying a Life Guide series on “Moses.” This study is written by Stephen D. Eyre and contains 11 lessons from the Burning Bush to Passing the Baton. See how this book helped in the establishment of the Holy Land and changed history. We would like you to join us for this study and bring a friend. A few years back, I had a bible study here at Jose & Yendry’s house in Fierro. Within this last month, I have returned to their house in order to continue giving bible studies with this wonderful family. Yendry used to be Catholic but through discipleship she has seen how the Catholic doctrine doesn’t match up with what we find in scripture. Both Jose and his wife Yendry are now Christians but Yendry can’t read which, unfortunately, is the case with many within the poorer villages in Costa Rica. Please pray for Jose and Yendry that they will continue to grow in the Lord and share their faith with the lost. Also, please pray for their kids Nuemi & Joselen that they will one day accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. |

Over the years, it has been encouraging to see doña Rosa grow as a Christian. Rosa was converted from Catholicism to Christianity through the working of the Holy Spirit through discipleship. As Rosa heard the truths of the word of God, she began to understand what was truth & what was a lie. She then put what was the truth, according to scriptures, into practice and now puts the Word first as she listens to pastors preach throughout the week. In the picture above, Rosa is cooking down hard kernels of corn in that large pot in order to make handmade tortillas. BTW Rosa is an incredible chef! Please pray that Rosa will share with others what she has learned from the Word.

Although congregations can minister in ways we can’t, Young Life has inroads in communities with kids who are disinterested in church. However, as Young Life staff and leaders care for these kids, we try to help them become lifelong followers of Jesus Christ who will one day be active in the life of a local church.
