Juneteenth Holiday Hours
The Heart of Virginia Council Leadership Center and Scout Shop will be closed on Saturday, June 18th through Monday, June 20th. We look forward to serving you with our regular business hours again on Tuesday, June 21st.
This Sunday, we're wishing everyone a very happy Juneteenth!
Cubmasters and Pack Committee Chairs...
The Heart of Virginia Council has been approved to participate in the Family Den Pilot Program by the National Council of the BSA. The program will allow you to form dens that are comprised of boys and girls instead of being limited to single-gender dens only. Participation in the Family Den Pilot Program is 100% voluntary and a decision for each Pack to make.
Cub Scout Summer Day Camp Begins on Monday, June 27th!
Week-long Cub Scout Summer Day Camp gets off to a WILD start on Monday, June 27th at Deep Run Park. The first week of our Wild West themed camp is open to Scouts AND their buddies in the 1st through 5th grades. We'll teach hands-on outdoor skills, promote the values of Scouting, reinforce the bonds of friendships into the summer months, and provide opportunities for your child to hit their target with BB guns and archery. Two additional weeks of camp are available at Robious Landing and Point of Rocks Parks!
We are excited to offer a special orientation for first year campers and their parents. It will be at T. Brady Saunders this Saturday, June 18th from 9am to noon. A hot dog lunch is provided. This program is designed to relieve anxieties first year campers and their parents might have about BSA long-term camping. Registration closes tonight!
Citizenship in Society Merit Badge Counselors Needed
The new Citizenship in Society Merit Badge becomes required for all Scouts as of July 1, 2022, so counselors are needed ASAP! Since this badge is to be taught in small groups to Scouts within their own troop, the Heart of Virginia Council needs every troop to select at least one person who will help guide Scouts on their journey of self-discovery. The counselor will facilitate discussions with the Scouts as they seek to further understand the diverse world we live in.
