Job Seeker Success Story: Jon

Photo of Jon Roman

Jon first met his WIOA Career Coach Diana Bonilla, at Rubicon Programs, alongside his loving mother, who has always advocated for him and his special needs. Jon previously worked in grocery stores doing work others deemed suitable for him. He had always dreamed big but stopped pursuing his goals because of his perceived inabilities.

Diana carefully assessed Jon's abilities to interact with others and follow instructions. She was immediately struck by his intelligence, love of nature and enthusiasm for manual work, including building things. Diana looked for jobs and opportunities that would play to his strengths and allow him to grow independently. She contacted Treasure Island Job Corps and confirmed Jon was eligible for placement. Jon is currently enrolled in Job Corps' carpentry program, excelling at a trade and life he thought was unattainable.

"Never give up on your dreams or hopes," Jon says. "Keep your head up high. Success will come one day."
