COVID-19 Update
On March 14, 2022, in alignment with the new California and Contra Costa Health Services school guidelines, Carondelet is strongly recommending masking while indoors but not requiring them. This recommendation is for all students regardless of vaccination status. Many will decide to continue masking for added security or because of interactions with those who may be at greater risk from COVID-19, while others will choose to remain mask free. We will remain respectful of all community members and the decisions they make.

As masking is one tool to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, we will need to remain flexible in the weeks and months ahead. If the situation in Contra Costa County changes and/or our school community experiences a spike in cases—we may need to bring back required masks for limited periods of time.

Specific changes to COVID-19 protocols
Carondelet is shifting to a group contact tracing model. If a student tests positive for COVID-19, all students in the classroom will have to abide by the following protocol:
  • All individuals in the classroom will be notified of a COVID-19 exposure.
  • All individuals not experiencing symptoms may continue to attend school/extracurricular activities. All are recommended to test on day five of their last close contact. Students should monitor themselves for symptoms for 10 days after last close contact.
  • Any individuals experiencing symptoms should stay home and be tested for COVID-19. If the test is positive, they will follow isolation protocols.
  • Isolation protocols for individuals who test COVID-19 positive remain the same.

Unvaccinated students and those with unknown vaccination status who have close contact to a positive case at home or in the community must continue following at home quarantine per county guidelines.
Construction Near Campus March 14-31
Contra Costa Water District will begin replacing a section of the concrete liner along the Contra Costa Canal starting March 14. While there are no direct impacts to the Carondelet campus, there will be intermittent trail closures of the Contra Costa Canal Trail between Oak Grove and Citrus. Be aware that this trail may be inaccessible while work is underway. If you use these routes to get to or from school, plan for alternate routes during the construction schedule of March 14-31.

Social Media Awareness
We are aware of an anonymous social media account that involves Carondelet and De La Salle students. While some of these accounts raise awareness and build community, others perpetuate rumors, spread gossip, and cause undue harm.

Our digital footprints are an extension of our values and beliefs. As members of the Carondelet community, we expect our students to behave, online and in person, in a manner that is consistent with our core values. We ask our students to be mindful of what they post online, what they “like” and “follow,” and how their comments may impact others. Students should also be aware that posting photos/videos of other students or teachers without their consent; sharing student information, like first and last names, without consent; and using language which is sexist, racist, or homophobic are all violations of our Student Handbook (page 16) and will result in disciplinary action.

As with all concerning social media incidents, we are currently investigating certain social media accounts involving our community and following up with students who engage/like/view inappropriate and unkind posts.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Caitlin Main ‘05, Dean of Students.
