On Saturday, April 15, a wonderful group of volunteers from the University of North Texas, with the help and guidance of our Build Committee volunteers, spent the day painting a vintage Habitat home in need of a fresh coat of paint. The homeowner was very thankful and praised God the entire day for their help!

This project was part of our Brush with Kindness program that mobilizes volunteers to provide exterior home maintenance assistance to low-income homeowners. It addresses a critical and often overlooked need: After years of deferred maintenance, homes fall into disrepair. Under this program model, homeowners are eligible to participate in Brush with Kindness based on factors such as the condition of the home, income, and a demonstration of challenging circumstances such as disability, illness or age that prevent them from doing the work themselves. Qualifying homeowners contribute sweat equity by working side by side with volunteers to complete the work if they are able.

Our next Brush with Kindness project is taking place on Thursday, May 11 in partnership with Keller Williams Realty's RED Day! The entire KW company sets aside the second Thursday of May each year to Renew, Energize, and Donate within the communities they serve. Our Brush with Kindness program, highlighted above, could not be successful without the support of our amazing volunteers. One volunteer in particular, a dedicated member of our Build Committee, graciously stepped up to lead our Brush with Kindness efforts this spring. Mark Gribbin has put in dozens of hours preparing for our Brush with Kindness projects. His preparation includes recruiting volunteers to power wash the home ahead of time, gathering supplies, meeting with Habitat staff, and preparing all materials - not to mention leading the beautiful painting done on the day-of! We are so grateful for his hard work and willingness to help with this important program. Thank you, Mark, for your leadership, support, and servant heart!

Thank you to the Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors for throwing a successful Party with a Purpose on April 15 at Marty B's, raising over $43,000 for Habitat Denton! Thank you to all who attended, donated, and participated in the silent auction for making this such a fun event.
