The GLOBE Program's 2022 Earth Day banner

Join GIO on 22 April for a Special Earth Day Broadcast

 

In celebration of Earth Day, and The GLOBE Program’s 27th Anniversary, the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) is hosting a special broadcast on 22 April (09:00 a.m. MST/04:00 p.m. UTC). The broadcast will feature opening remarks by GIO Director Dr. Tony Murphy, a video presentation, the 2022 IVSS drawing, results from the Air Temperature Data Challenge, introductions to the 2022/2023 cohort of GLOBE Student Vloggers, and closing remarks by GLOBE Program Manager (NASA Headquarters) Dr. Allison Leidner.

NASA’s Earth Day 2022 online celebrations go live on 22 April, and remain available (on demand) through 02 May. Celebrations include live talks and chat rooms, trivia games, a kid-friendly fun zone, and more! GLOBE will be featured in many of the content areas.

Save the Date: GLOBE Annual Meeting Will Take Place Virtually 25-28 July

 

The 2022 GLOBE Annual Meeting will be held virtually. Planning is well underway, so mark your calendar and hold the dates: 25-28 July. Registration for the meeting will open in late April (registration will be required for all presenters). Registration prices (and dates) are: Early Bird Registration: $95 (Early Bird registration ends on 13 May); Full Registration: $125 (Full registration ends on 01 July); and Late Registration: $150 (Late registration begins on 02 July).

Join the Spring 2022 Tree Height and Land Cover Intensive IOP (06 April Kick-Off Webinar)

 

The Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign, GLOBE European Phenology Campaign, UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre (coordinator of GLOBE Poland), and the Urban Heat Island Effect - Surface Temperature Campaign invite you to participate in the Spring 2022 GLOBE Tree Height and Land Cover Intensive Observation Period (IOP) from 22 April through 22 May. There will be a special “kick-off” webinar for the IOP on Wednesday, 06 April, at 11:00 a.m. EDT (03:00 p.m. UTC).

Join the GLOBE Mission Mosquito “Spare Tire Blitz,” taking place from March through June. Participants can document mosquito tire habitat by submitting a photo using The GLOBE Program’s app, GLOBE Observer (GO), Mosquito Habitat Mapper (MHM) tool.

The GLOBE Mission Mosquito (GMM) professional development webinar, “Around the World Spare Tire Blitz” will be held on Thursday, 21 April, at 02:00 p.m. EDT (06:00 p.m. UTC). The GMM team will share stories of the Spare Tire Challenge from the GLOBE community.

2022 IVSS Judges: Scores and Feedback Due on 06 April

 

GIO would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2022 International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS)! Judges who complete scoring their projects by 06 April will receive certificates and virtual badges by the end of April. Feedback from the judges, and student certificates, will be sent to teachers in mid-April. Project scores and virtual badges will appear on the school’s “About Me” and “Contact” pages by 22 April.

U.S. GLOBE Teachers: National Environmental Education Week 2022 and Beyond

 

Instead of packing all of the educational resources and events into a handful of days in late April, the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) has decided to expand their EE offerings throughout the year. This way, they can share more high-quality materials and align EE offerings with a traditional school year schedule—making it more intuitive for educators to incorporate environmental education into their lesson plans.

U.S. GLOBE Teachers and Partners: Join the Watercoolers in April. Watercoolers are held most Thursdays, at 04:10 p.m. EST. They provide an informal opportunity to connect with other GLOBE teachers and partners to share ideas. Each week begins with a presentation from a teacher or partner, with time for questions.

U.S. GLOBE Students: NASA Spotlite Video Challenge: Cloud Detectives – Videos Due 31 July

 

NASA wants students to produce a video for the NASA eClips™ website. Videos must be submitted by 31 July. Teams will produce a short video confronting one of two misconceptions related to clouds by investigating and collecting evidence, including GLOBE Clouds and NASA data. Learners in formal and non-formal education settings can become content creators and inspire others to engage in science. All steps of creating a Spotlite video can be accomplished using cell phones, tablets, and laptops.
