Finding Freedom Summer Traveling Exhibit Comes to the Library

The Tipp City Library is proud to host the Finding Freedom Summer Traveling Exhibit. This exhibit was created by Miami University Libraries faculty and staff and handles topics such as the civil rights movement, racial injustice, and civil unrest. While the exhibit focuses on educating grade school students, the content is just as engaging and informative for adults as well. The exhibit is composed of twelve panels educating through documentary photography and tells the story of 800 volunteer college students registering black voters in Mississippi in 1964. The exhibit will be on display in the two front windows of the first floor of the library from April 24 - June 17. To schedule a tour, email info@tippcitylibrary.org or call the library at 937-667-3826.

Events Planned for the Whole Family

Celebrate Children's Book Week May 1 - 7

Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. The 2023 slogan is Read Books. Spark Change. This year’s theme speaks to the power that books and stories have to inspire positive change.

Readers of all ages can join in the fun of Children’s Book Week with this year’s Find Your Spark Challenge. Pick up the handout in the Creative Corner and try our Book Scavenger Hunt. Find 4 books from the checklist that meet the criteria. Then take the books home and read them. Share some information about a book you read on the back of the Scavenger Hunt and turn in your sheet by Monday, May 8 by 5:00 p.m. to be included in a drawing for a $10 gift card to Dairy Queen or Rad Candy Company.

Award-winning author and illustrator Rilla Alexander is the poster art creator and you can see this year’s theme poster on the Children’s Room bulletin board. Next to the poster are booklists of favorite books for a variety of age groups voted on by children across the country.

There are also Activity Sheets on the Creative Corner tables. Learn how to draw from children’s book illustrators, or color your own version of the Children’s Book Week poster.

It's Field Trip Month at the Library!

This month we will welcome over 800 children in preschool through third grade to the library for field trips to learn about library services and get pumped up for a summer of fun at the library. This annual trek of students through the library gives the Youth Services staff a chance to show children all the fun things they can do at the library. Children will also hear about how to participate in our summer reading incentive program with the Beanstack app.

Just like in past summers, children in the PreReaders Incentive Program can earn two prize bags by completing the Beanstack Bingo Card. Elementary students will earn beads and chains, as well as a book and coupons in the Bead-to-Read Program.

If your child is not in one of the classes visiting us in May, you can stop in and get some information about our 2023 Summer Library Club beginning May 15.
