Dear Asbury family,
As we begin a new year of ministry and mission together at Asbury United Methodist Church, we are also continuing in the prayerful work of Discernment. Our Discernment Team is making some final edits to the Church-Wide Survey after some initial drafts were looked over by research and data specialists in the private sector. The Discernment Team plans to launch the survey in early February.
Our goal is to have as many people as possible participate in the survey so that we receive thoughts and views from across our membership. Our Discernment Team will send out reminders about the survey and its deadline. The Team plans on reporting the data from this survey as well as other data collected during the listening sessions, information sessions, and individual communications with the Discernment Team to the Church Council in late Spring or early Summer.
As we prepare to send out the survey, we want to ensure we have the correct email address for each person worshiping at Asbury. If you are sharing an email address with someone in your household or you are not currently receiving email from Asbury, we ask that you update your contact information with us to ensure everyone receives the survey. We ask that you do this as soon as possible so there is no delay in receiving the survey link. If you have questions, contact the church office.
In order to prepare to take the survey, please make every effort to visit Asbury's Discernment Team website for information, frequently asked questions, and a timeline of what to expect.
If you still have questions about the issues within our denomination and the discernment team, we invite you to listen to a conversation between Rev. Robert Mercer and I where we unpacked relevant parts of the United Methodist Book of Discipline and explained how laws are written, interpreted, and enforced in the United Methodist Church. We also talk about scripture: how United Methodists read it, interpret it, and live by it.
