2023 Summer Research Trainee Program (SRTP)
Seeking Preceptors with Funding
| |
The MGH Center for Diversity and Inclusion's 2023 Summer Research Trainee Program (SRTP), will be held from June 5 to July 28. Each summer, college and graduate students aspiring to obtain MDs and PhDs in biomedical sciences are selected from a nationwide competition to join SRTP. Students are assigned to specific MGH laboratories or clinical, health policy, and health services research areas, where they undertake an original research project under the mentorship and guidance of an MGH investigator.
If you are interested in being a preceptor and can fund a student this summer, please complete this SRTP preceptor survey by Friday, Jan 20. Due to budget constraints, we are trying to plan ahead and assess the number of students we can admit.

A Message from Drs. Cesar Castro and Julie Price
As CDI Faculty co-Directors for Research, we have been working closely with the CDI team to create a plan to promote our UiM MGH researcher workforce. We continue to work to expand investigative networks and catalyze the cross-pollination of ideas. Through enhanced, meaningful, and fruitful collaborations, we are poised to enact sustained change to address longstanding structural challenges facing UiM investigators. It has been a pleasure to meet members of our UiM community and we look forward to future opportunities to do so.
Below are two opportunities to connect with us and here about our progress:
-
Individual 1:1 consultations: We invite you to meet with either of us to discuss your research ambitions, lessons learned, and how we can leverage MGH’s collective resources to favorably shape your professional narratives. Please sign up through our individual Calendly sites (links below).
-
MGH Research Council: In case you missed it, please click here to view a recording of the December 5, 2022 MGH Research Council meeting where we presented an update on our research initiatives that continue to help advance the mission of CDI and the careers of investigators underrepresented in medicine.

Financial Planning 10-week Class
The Office for Women's Careers is excited to partner with Her Personal Finance to offer a 10-week online financial planning class for co-ed faculty at MGH. This class will require a $750 upfront investment, but eligible participants can seek reimbursement once the course is complete from the MGPO Benefits Office as part of the $1,500 financial planning benefit. A benefit is once in 5 years. If a faculty member has used the full benefit in the last 5 years, then they will not be eligible to request reimbursement for this course. For questions about reimbursement eligibility, please contact mghmgpofinancialplanning@partners.org. All course participants will receive instructions on how to request reimbursement from the MGPO.
Have questions about how much to save for retirement or how much you should invest in a single asset like a house? Unsure if you should pay off your student loans first or save more for retirement?
This class is designed to answer those questions while helping you navigate common pitfalls which trip up professional faculty in academic medicine. This is a unique opportunity and space is limited. Classes will take place every Thursday from 12-1pm from January 12 to March 16, 2023.
Facilitated by Eryn Schultz, MBA, Founder of Her Personal Finance. If you have any questions, please email Lauren Olson at leolson@mgh.harvard.edu
