Hello NAWIC Members and Friends,

I hope this month has been filled with an abundance of things chocolate-covered!

Our February meeting was our Annual Executive Breakfast. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast buffet at the DoubleTree TCC followed by a very informative presentation by guest speaker, Kathy Prather, Superintendent & CEO, Pima JTED.

At our meeting we announced the "Member of the Year."
Congratulations to Jamie Regan. It is a recognition that is well-deserved. Her service as our treasurer has been outstanding.

A few days later, we shared many laughs at The Gaslight Theater during their performance of Arizona Smith and the Relic of Doom. If you couldn't join us, the show runs through March 27th. It's very silly and quite fun. The Three Musketeers, which we expected to see starts March 31st. Grab a few NAWIC friends and see the shows! Thank you to Florence Bramlett for coordinating the event and Tracy Miller and Jamie Regan for their assistance. BTW, each of these ladies have been a recipient of the Member of the Year award.

Coming up in March we will celebrate Women in Constuction Week (WIC Week). We have a week of activities planned. Ann Vargas, Gina Hansen, Yvette Pederson, and Tracy Miller have been instrumental in coordinating a fantastic week of celebration. See below for details. Our mentorship program will launch during WIC Week. Members, if you have not responded to the questionnaire that was sent out previously, please do so we can match the students with the professionals.

Mark your calendars for these events:

March 6 - 12 -- Women in Construction Week (WIC Week)
March 10 -- Multi-Association Mixer
March 12 -- Habitat for Humanity Tailgate Build & Mentorship Program Launch
April 13 -- Chapter Dinner Meeting
April 28 - May 1 --Pacific Southwest Conference (see below for details)

Nominations for the 2022-23 board of directors will take place soon. Members, expect a call from one of nominating committee members. Enhance you NAWIC experience by serving in a leadership position.

So, until then, stay well! I am looking forward to seeing you during WIC Week!

Cheers,
Susan Stein Kregar

A Message from Habitat for Humanity Tucson
DIRE NEED FOR FRAMERS

Habitat is in dire need of those who are either professionals, skilled, or comfortable and familiar with framing and attaching decking (plywood) to roof trusses. There are 10-12 homes on our Marana construction site that we need assistance with as soon as possible. Due to the pandemic, the delays in services, and a very large decrease in our volunteer base, our materials have been in the elements longer than anticipated and we want to make sure we preserve them before anything further happens to them. We cannot afford to start over. In order to preserve the trusses, plywood and materials we already have up we could really use some assistance. If we had to pay a contractor, it would be roughly 25-30K a house and we’d like to avoid this as we are a fiscally responsible organization. Even if you are not totally seasoned to framing, but you want to learn and help out we will certainly teach you, but we need a dedicated base to get these homes done before the heat and monsoons come lurking.

***Habitat is a volunteer heavy organization from way back to its roots, based on the concept of partnership housing where those in need of adequate shelter, work side by side with volunteers to build decent, affordable homes. Because of our volunteers, whole neighborhoods improve and completely transform. Through this transformation, families are able to achieve the strength, stability and the independence they need to build a better life. Words cannot express how much we appreciate our volunteers in all areas of Habitat.

Habitat is gladly and eagerly accepting volunteers and groups in all aspects of construction and encourage you to sign up when you can!
Not only is NAWIC Tucson helping Habitat for Humanity build a home, we are also helping to build the careers of the next generation of construction professionals. While at the event, connect with students from Pima Community College who are seeking mentors who will guide them into their construction careers.
NAWIC TUCSON & PIMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
In partnership with Pima Community College, The Tucson Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is excited to announce its mentorship program. The program will be launched on March 12, 2022 at the Habitat for Humanity Build in Marana and is for female students studying construction and its related fields at Pima Community College. As a result of this program, female students will be matched with experienced NAWIC members for the purpose of offering career guidance and support as the student enters the construction field. In addition, students will also be offered resume building and interviewingskills.
