Submit a video of your music or dance performance piece by uploading your video to Google Drive. Save the Date! All Peabody Families Invited to the First Gathering of the Peabody Partners on November 6th

All Peabody families are invited and encouraged to join us for the first gathering of the Peabody Partners on Saturday, November 6th, from 3:45-6:00 PM at the Monticello-Saunders trail just two miles east of the school.  Peabody Partners is a new school initiative offering Peabody families (and any friends who might be interested, too) opportunities to learn through, and contribute to, efforts to support the welfare and betterment of our local community. On this and every first Saturday afternoon of the year, Partners will join together in appreciating and supporting the welfare of our local natural resources.  For this particular session, we will meet at the parking lot on Route 20 just across from PVCC, where local environmentalists will first provide some background education about the local ecology, and then some preliminary training for the work we’ll do the rest of the time.  From there, we’ll hike over to the Secluded Farm Trails, where we will probably help remediate some of the invasive plant species and support litter clean-up efforts.

RSVP is not required, but if you’re confident you’d like to join, or if you have any questions, you can send a quick email to Eric Anderson just so we know to keep an eye out for you.
Artist of the Month-Yayoi Kusama

Honoring the work of our October “Artist of the Month” Yayoi Kusama, 7th and 8th-grade sculpture students created pumpkins covered in the artist’s signature polka-dot effect. These pieces embody Kusama’s lifelong fascination with pumpkins and her investigation into themes of nature, fantasy, life, and death. Students created their sculptures using plastic shopping bags, masking tape, and rubber bands to form their armature. Strips of plaster gauze were applied to the surface to encase the pumpkin forms and acrylic paint was used to complete the work.
Make an Impact: Annual Fund 2021-22!

The 2021-22 Annual Fund is now officially underway! All families were mailed an Annual Report this week. We are so thankful for everyone that made an impact last year with over $150,000 in gifts made to our wonderful school!

Your participation in the Peabody Annual Fund provides essential operating support to Peabody. Income from tuition does not cover all of our operating expenses. The generosity of our community supports almost everything that keeps Peabody running, from salaries and classroom technology to arts and supplies. Lastly, the Fund supports financial aid as we ensure that any student can share in the Peabody experience. We hope that you will support Peabody in this area and that you will keep in mind that your Annual Fund gift, of any size, really matters to the school. Let's all MAKE AN IMPACT!

Thank you in advance for your consideration of a gift to Peabody School for the 2021-22 year and for being such strong supporters of our wonderful school!

We Received Mail!

It took more than three weeks to cross the pond but we finally received a surprise from our French friends via snail mail this week!

The French students wrote little messages to their Peabody friends on pieces of paper and our Grade 4 and 5 had to put them all back together to discover a poster of the Lion de Belfort! Did you know that The Lion de Belfort and the Statue of Liberty were related? Ask grade 5 students if you want to know!
Día de los Muertos

Over the past two days, Spanish students across grades 1 through 5 all played a role in crafting part of a community ofrenda/altar for Día de los Muertos.

As we told students, this is not a time for sorrow, but a celebration as we remember those who once brightened up our own lives. Through colorful dance, laughter, food, and song, Día de los Muertos is a jubilant time of hope for families as they look forward to connecting once again with their loved ones. Families will spend time prepping their homes and gravestones with cempasúchil (Marigolds), comida, pan de muerto, calaveras de azúcar, calacas, velas and fotos.

Many students opted to remember someone they have studied in your class. Last year, our ofrendas even welcomed photos of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Rosa Parks, Jimi Hendrix, Amelia Earhart, Kobe Bryant, Rosa Parks, and of course, a few furry family members, alongside an image of their favorite treat or toy.

Celebrating Día de los Muertos through a group ofrenda project gave us the opportunity to build community within our Spanish classes and even the school as a whole. We are excited to highlight this special tradition in our Spanish classroom here at Peabody!
