The Falcon Flyer - Website Edition
January 28, 2022
Dear Rondout Families, Faculty and Friends,

We had a great week which seemed to just fly by. We were lucky to get in a little outdoor time despite the snow and sub-zero temperatures. We had a surprise hot chocolate treat on Wednesday to keep everyone warm and toasty despite the frigid cold.  K-5 enjoyed their gourmet hot chocolate complete with marshmallows, whipped cream and sprinkles during snack time while 6-8 enjoyed their hot chocolate during lunch. It added a sweet touch to our week.

I was delighted by the fabulous surprise created by the 7th grade. You can read more about it later in the flyer. We will share photos next week.  The artwork will become part of the south wing at the gym entrance. It is absolutely fabulous and will be enjoyed for years to come.

Next Saturday, February 5th is the second vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is being sponsored by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Vaccines are available for ages 5 and up to adults. Boosters are also available. The link to make an appointment is found in the flyer below. Walk-ins are welcome.

Next week Tuesday heralds the start of Chinese New Year- The Year of the Tiger. Gung Hoy Fat Choy to all our families that may be celebrating.

Next Tuesday will also be an early dismissal. K-2 at 2 p.m. and  3-8 at 2:30 p.m. Please take note of the dismissal times.

Next week Tuesday we will also be taking a schoolwide virtual field trip to hang out with the penguins at the Shedd Aquarium. We are excited to get this opportunity. We will have some photos to share next week.

Our COVID testing numbers looked very good this week so we plan to restart the 3-5 basketball camp the week of February 7th if the Rondout COVID numbers remain the same. Mr. Williams sent out a revised schedule those who had returned their permission forms prior to winter break. The newly revised form needs to be signed and returned in order for students to participate.

Wishing you an enjoyable weekend and a great week ahead.

Dear Families and Staff,

I hope that you are all healthy and staying warm during these cold winter days. While the frigid temperatures kept us inside for most of the week, it didn’t dampen our spirit!

Our K-2 and 6-8 clusters enjoyed wonderful virtual field trips from Illinois Beach State Park. They learned all about birds with wonderful presentations and activities. A special thank you to Mrs. Jacob for augmenting the experience with additional activities.

On Wednesday, we were proud to host the Rondout Spelling Bee. All of our contestants did a fantastic job spelling challenging words to compete for a spot in the regional competition. Congratulations to Mariana Millan, our school winner and Caitlyn Griffith, our runner-up! Everyone did a phenomenal job!

The cold temperatures on Wednesday also brought a surprise hot chocolate treat for students from the kitchen! Students were excited to warm up with the special surprise.

Thank you to everyone for another fantastic week at Rondout. We look forward to a new month and new experiences next week!
All the best,
Elizabeth Davis

Seventh Grade Collaborative Art Project

SURPRISE! Seventh grade surprised Dr. Wojcik with brightly painted canvases spelling, "Rondout School" this past Thursday! Students were provided canvases and neon paint with a focus on demonstrating repetitive shapes and lines. Creative freedom was celebrated as students swapped canvases building up thick layers of color. The new signage will be used to add a pop of color in our school as well as showcase the wonderful artistic talents we have at Rondout School. The legacy project will be proudly displayed for years to come.

Great job seventh grade!

2022 SPELLING BEE CHAMPION
Mariana!!!
Congratulations to this year’s Spelling Bee Champion, Mariana. After 16 rounds, Mariana clinched the title after correctly spelling Technique. Mariana will move on to the next round which will take place virtually on February 16th at 6pm. Let’s all wish Mariana luck.
Another round of applause for our runner-up, Caitlyn. Caitlyn did an outstanding job and fought until the bitter end!
Despite masks and social distancing, all of our spellers persevered to make Rondouts 2022 Spelling Bee a success! Congratulations to everyone! Looking forward to next year!
