Another Sad Ending to Abandoned Vessels in and around the Oregon Waterways - The sinking of the "Alert"
Abandoned Coast Guard Cutter Alert in her glory days shown in photo. It was a 125' vessel that was used for Law Enforcement Patrols is now sitting on the bottom of the Columbia River. Luckily a while back the Coast Guard had determined that both the Alert and Tug Boat Sakarissa were a hazard and in danger of sinking. Because of that most if not all of the fuel and oil aboard both vessels had been pumped out for environmental concerns. A solid decision based on this latest tragedy. It was already a difficult task to deal with these vessels and the cost for the Alert has now increased 3 to 4 times what it would have cost to get rid of while it was still floating. Columbia River Yachting Association is a Member of US Sailing

What does that mean for our members? As members of CRYA we are all able to take advantage of this membership. It's advantages are mainly for Sailing events, but it is also the key for CRYA to get insurance for our events and activities. Attached is our Certificate of Membership. NOAA Continues to Retire RNC or Raster Charts
"Farewell to Traditional Nautical Charts"

NOAA began in 2021 to retire RNC (raster) charts as part of the transition to electronic charts. This means the “retired” RNC charts will no longer be being updated (supported) by NOAA.

For a more complete story along with Question and Answer section follow this link to the NOAA website.
We are in the final stages of completing the 2022 Columbia River Yachting Association Cruise Guide

and we will be asking for your help in completing Bridge Officers and Club information from you. Please, fill out the form sent to your group or club. If you don't receive one you can always request a copy by sending an email to Jolene Walsh our Media Liaison to get yours. We need this for Opening Day and a number of other uses during the year to keep everyone informed.
