Behavioral Health Tip of the Month

Determining the appropriate level of care for substance use disorder

Treatment options for substance use patients can range from short-term detox and/or rehab to intensive outpatient treatment and/or medication-assisted treatment.

In his November Mind Matters talk, Dr. Prameet Singh shared 6 domains to consider when determining the appropriate level of care for your patients.

  • Acute intoxication or withdrawal potential
  • Biomedical conditions and complications
  • Emotional/behavioral/cognitive conditions
  • Readiness to change
  • Relapse potential
  • Recovery environment

Behavioral Health in the Literature

Mindfulness as effective as pharmacological treatment for anxiety

A recent trial published in JAMA Psychiatry found that a mindfulness intervention was as effective as first-line medication treatment for patients with anxiety disorders.
