Description:


Practice and supervision are needed to become proficient with the implementation of child-centered play therapy. This training will begin with a review of Virginia Axline's 8 Principles of Child-Centered play therapy, followed by the application of the principles to actual cases. Participants will be divided into small groups in order to role-play the various stages of play therapy. Myths and misconceptions of play therapy will be discussed. Further, documentation and treatment planning will be discussed and practiced. Strategies for working with parents and explaining how and why play therapy works will be addressed. Cultural implications and neurobiological principles will also be a part of this training.  



Objectives:


  • Describe and practice Virginia Axline's 8 Principles of Child-Centered Play Therapy
  • Demonstrate the application of various child-centered principles using case scenarios
  • Demonstrate the process for constructing treatment plan goals and documenting play therapy sessions.

Sonia Hinds, APRN, PMH-BC, RPT-S is the Founder and CEO of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars. Founder and Executive Director of Barstow Acres Children’s Center, a non-profit practice providing children's mental health services. Ms. Hinds is trained in Child-Centered and Gestalt play therapy with Violet Oaklander (retired). Authored chapter, Play Therapy in the African-American Village in text, Cultural Issues in Play Therapy, edited by Eliana Gil, PhD, RPT-S and Athena Drewes, PsyD, RPT-S. Ms Hinds received the MD/DC APT 2019 Outstanding Service Award.

Cancellation Policy:


Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.


CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund. 


Cancelling your Zoom meeting registration does not constitute cancellation of your CBPS session registration. Please refer to our cancellation policy in the training announcement, which supersedes all other mentions of options to cancel your registration.
