A Message from Pastor Ted
|
|
“Columbia Presbyterian Church: encouraging you to encounter God, to enter into a life-changing relationship with Jesus, and to allow the Holy Spirit to show you your place in God’s work.”
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! As we marvel and endure our snowy weather over this week, may we offer our thanks to God for our many blessings of love and grace that we have received. And thank you for your support and help last Sunday as I was fighting off laryngitis in both services. I am on the mend at the time of this writing (Tuesday).
The pastors are now planning their sermons for the upcoming nine Sundays. We believe it is important, as the Pastor Nominating Team goes forward with their work, to address our purpose statement for our congregation. The emphasis in our messages will be on encountering God, having a life-changing relationship with Jesus, and being sent out by God in our community.
This opening Sunday will focus on Matthias, who was the replacement for Judas to complete the Twelve Apostles. He had been with Jesus from His baptism to the resurrection (encountered Christ). How would he be part of the ministry for others to encounter Christ? We hope to see you on Sunday in the sanctuary or on live streaming.
The sermon passages for January 2 are Acts 1:21-26 and Romans 8:28 - “You don’t know . . .”

Animate: Bible Series
January 9 – February 27
10:30-11:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall
In a time when the Bible is used in religious, political, and social debates, it is increasingly important for people who claim to have faith in the God of the sacred text to understand the challenges and opportunities of using and misusing the Bible. The Animate: Bible series is a video-based curriculum facilitated by our own team that will shed light on how we can better use scripture to address the difficult questions that arise from the sacred text. Some of these questions include: How did the Bible come to be? How should we interpret the Bible? How do the Old and New Testaments fit together? Should we read the whole Bible in the same way? Is the Bible relevant in today's world? Each week a different theologian will speak to us on the video and launch us into a healthy and vibrant conversation about the Bible.
