STUDENT ACTIVITIES THIS WEEK
Anything But a Backpack
This Tuesday, November 16, our school is participating in 'Anything But a Backpack Day'. This is meant to be a fun, silly day for our students to celebrate being back on campus. If students choose to participate, you can bring your school materials to campus in anything but a backpack. Be creative and have fun!
Class Comp this week!
This Wednesday, November 17 is Class Comp! Seniors wear purple, juniors wear green, sophomores wear orange and freshmen wear blue. There will be a fun class comp at lunch in the gym. Masks must be worn when inside the gym.
Coffee House
Our first Coffee House of the year is this Thursday, November 18 at 6 pm in the amphitheater. Peninsula students will perform on our outdoor amphitheater stage. Admission to attend is free. Bring blankets and a beach chair and a friend!
SLL Canned Food Drive
Service Learning Leadership is sponsoring our food drive HAPPENING NOW through Thurs., Nov. 18th. Join us in supporting families in need this holiday season. Our drive will once again be a friendly (but fierce!) competition for third period classes. The winning third period teacher/class will be the keeper of our perpetual trophy. Please join us in supporting a number of different food distribution sites including the San Pedro Boys & Girls Club, Long Beach Ronald McDonald House and the Long Beach Rescue Mission. While we appreciate ALL donations, we also encourage you to please check expiration dates on your items if you donate from your own pantry. We had a number of expired items we could not donate last year. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Myrick ([email protected]) Thank you SO MUCH for your support of this tradition and of families in need!
PV ELITE
Reminder: Peninsula High School Math and English department are offering targeted intervention to all students. See schedule below. Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.
Football
Peninsula Football ended its season last Friday vs Palos Verdes High School. This year the Varsity team went 4-6, while frosh/soph team compiled a 6-2-2 record in what was an overall good year for the Program despite some close losses and a covid effected season. Key wins this season for the Varsity were over Lakewood, West Torrance, Redondo and Santa Monica High School. The Panthers were led by Kyle Krafick, Quin Massey and Collin Shiang on both Offense and Defense, but also saw valuable contributions this year from Seniors Tyler Mcbride, Blake Bell, Jace Talavera and Xander Jo.
Marching Band
The Peninsula High School Marching Band competed in the Gahr High School Marching Band Invitational Field Tournament last Saturday, taking 6th place in their division overall, and achieving 4th place in both Musical Styling and Percussion. Peninsula's 2021 field show, conducted by drum majors KC Menninger and Liam Seidel, is entitled "Queen of the Night." It was arranged and choreographed by director Michael Lloyd, and features renditions of
The Show Must Go On, Who Wants to Live Forever, and Bohemian Rhapsody. This is the first year a PVPHS Marching Band has competed since 2012.
Boys' Water Polo
The Boys Water Polo had a successful season under new Head Coach Justin Gonzales. Returning core Seniors Logan Lakis, Jonathan Candella, Riley Coogan, Kyle Masuguchi and Jaiden Thakor, the team finished with15 wins and made the CIF playoffs for the first time in years.  The boys attributed their success to the "new attitude" and Coaching that Coach Gonzales brought to the team and the intensive training regime that included practices before and after school in both the pool and the weight room.   After a slow start to the season their hard work started to pay off and they reeled off eight consecutive wins before losing to Brea Olinda 14-11 last week in the second round of CIF. Along the way they played an incredibly tough schedule that included eight ranked teams in Divisions 1 and 2. Besides CIF, the highlights of the Season was winning the Downey Tournament and placing second in the "Thrills in the Hills."  The program is on the rise and we expect continued success next year.
