October 2021
Message From The Principal
Welcome to Maize Intermediate School!
MIS Families,
We've made it through the first nine weeks of the school year - I can't believe how fast this time has gone. We look forward to continuing to settle into a routine and making great progress here at MIS.
On Friday, October 15, we were able to celebrate our first nest competition. It has been fun seeing students work so hard to demonstrate positive character traits to help their nest take the lead.
We have our first Spirit Week coming up during the last week of October during Red Ribbon Week. This will be another opportunity for an Eagles Nest Challenge for participation in this week of fun.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we navigate the challenging waters this year. With each day, we become stronger and better - and I consider myself blessed to be part of your student's educational journey.

With warm regards,

Mrs. Esping
Principal

FOOD SERVICE
ANTICIPATED MENU CHANGES:

Please know our department is working diligently to minimize the effect this may have on our customers. Menu changes are highly likely during this time; however, all students will continue to be offered meals that meet menu requirements, nutrition standards, and student acceptability.

October is Bullying Prevention Month!
Our goal at MIS is to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying and have all students feel included, safe, and welcome at school.

Is it Bullying?
When someone says or does something unintentionally hurtful and they do it once, that’s RUDE.
When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they do it once,   that’s MEAN.
When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they keep doing it even when you tell them to stop or show them that you're upset-
that’s BULLYING.

Find out more information about how to stop bullying at https://www.stopbullying.gov/bullying/what-is-bullying

Battle of the Books reading has begun! Battle of the Books is an activity that students can choose to participate in. The requirement is that they read at least 6 of the 10 books by the end of January. At the beginning of February, we will create teams of students who have read at least 6 of the books. The teams will then compete against one another to answer questions about the books. We will have our competition in February or March.

Lost or Damaged Books
Please let Mrs. Lehner in the library know about any damaged or lost books as soon as possible. We will let you know the replacement cost and have a new one purchased and shipped to the school. We will not accept replacement books purchased outside of the school at this time.
Student ID
All Students must have a student ID that they wear at all times. The library can reprint for students who have lost their IDs. The first re-print is free. Each lost ID after that is $3.00. Broke IDs will be reprinted for free. However, students must bring the broke ID to the library.
