Join Us for a Digital Health Initiative Celebration
On June 27, MeHI and Mass General Brigham will host a celebration of the progress of the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative. The event will include panel discussions, demonstrations of how digital health technology was used to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a look ahead at the future of the digital health ecosystem in Massachusetts. Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Kennealy will offer keynote remarks. Join us for the opportunity to bring the community together in person to celebrate the growth of the Commonwealth’s digital health ecosystem. 

The event will culminate in the final pitch competition for the COVID-19 Innovations for Healthcare Providers Challenge. Four companies addressing new challenges to providing care were recently selected as finalists in the program. They will pitch for the chance to win an additional $50,000 in tuition to one of Massachusetts’ Digital Health Sandboxes. The finalists are:

MassTech Intern Partnership Accepting Applications
Supported by the Baker-Polito Administration and the Massachusetts Legislature, the MassTech Intern Partnership (MTIP) program provides stipends to digital technology companies that are starting and scaling-up across Massachusetts to directly support internships for Massachusetts undergraduate and graduate students.

Companies can be reimbursed for up to 50% of the intern’s hourly wage, up to $8 per hour, for a total of $3,200/year per individual intern. This year, eligible digital health companies may apply for up to 3 interns per program period. All interns must be compensated as employees, not contractors, with required payroll withholdings.

The MTIP Summer Internship Program will run from May 2022 through September 2022, and applications are now being accepted.

Company Eligibility:
  • Must be headquartered in Massachusetts;
  • Have 250 or fewer employees;
  • Work in the digital technology sector including the priority verticals of cybersecurity, digital health, fintech, and robotics;
  • Hire a talented eligible intern this summer; and
  • Pay the intern as a W-2 employee with required payroll withholdings.

  • Rebecca Love, chief clinical officer of Quincy-based IntelyCare, joined Nurse-1-1’s board of directors. Cambridge-based Nurse-1-1 had announced a $2.3 million seed funding round in late March.


Opportunities
Point 32 Health Innovation Challenge Symposium
On October 12, 2022, Point32Health will host its first annual Innovation Challenge Symposium. Companies that deliver pioneering solutions to address global health care challenges are encouraged to apply to participate in the event, which could result in a pilot or collaboration with the insurer. For this challenge, Point32Health is accepting applications from companies that deliver innovative solutions on a wide range of health care issues, including behavioral health, chronic disease management, maternal/child health, oncology, pain management, and substance use disorder/opioid use disorder.

Point32Health's Clinical Innovation team will review applications and select participants to attend the Symposium in October and present to the Point32Health leadership team. One or more of the companies selected to present at the Symposium have the potential of working with the health plan on a pilot or program.
   
The deadline for submissions is June 22, 2022.
Johnson & Johnson QuickFire Challenge
BLUE KNIGHT™ is a joint initiative between Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS (‘JLABS’) and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). The initiative recognizes that new innovations, particularly those with multi-use potential, are needed to help rapidly and efficiently respond to emerging health security threats and infectious diseases. To that end, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, together with BARDA, launched the BLUE KNIGHT™ QuickFire Challenge: Next-Generation Preparedness Solutions. Up to four innovators with the best potential solution can receive award funding from a total pool of $200,000 and access to the global Johnson & Johnson Innovation – JLABS network.

Innovators from across the globe are invited to submit potentially ground-breaking ideas or technologies that aim to enhance preparedness towards future known and unknown infectious disease threats. Learn more and apply by July 22, 2022.
