Welcome to 2022! For many it is the time for reflection of the past year and looking forward by planning new goals in pursuit the of growth and development in our personal as well as professional endeavors for the new year.

Here's to fresh hopes and renewed determination to successfully pursue your aspirations for 2022!

In this issue of our newsletter, we share an amazing milestone for Spaceport Camden. This has been a long-term project for our Board of Commissioners and was a Top Priority in our 2021 Strategic Plan Action Agenda.

As the COVID-19 community transmission index continues to fluctuate in Camden County, we want to encourage you to talk to medical professionals about what steps you need to take to prevent illness from COVID-19. Coastal Georgia Public Health shares Camden-specific data demonstrating our current status.

COVID-19 Update
Coastal Georgia Public Health and the Camden County Health Departments share Camden-specific data on their website. Camden County has a high recent community transmission index.

The Camden County Health Department located at 905 Dilworth Street in St. Marys has COVID-19 testing available two days a week.

  • You do not need an appointment for testing at the Camden County Health Department, but pre-registration is strongly recommended. For faster service at the site, please pre-register and complete the registration forms online.
  • Site may close early because of excessive heat/extreme weather.
  • Tuesdays 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • or until site has reached daily capacity.
  • Thursdays 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • or until site has reached daily capacity.

If you need assistance scheduling a COVID-19 test through public health, our COVID-19 Testing Call Center is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

New Firefighters Join Camden County
Fire Rescue
The Camden County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce that the eight members of Recruit Classes 2021-07 and 2021-09 have completed their Basic Firefighter requirements. Justin Beverley, Ethan Hancock, Ryan Pecott, Lucas Peralta, Britny Pickering, and Andrew Turner were recognized at a graduation ceremony held earlier this week along with Alyssa Diaz and Adain Fitzpatrick of Kingsland Fire Rescue.

Mission Accomplished: FAA Approves Launch Site Operator License for Spaceport Camden
Camden County, Georgia has reclaimed its aerospace heritage with the issuance of a launch site operator license (LSOL) by the Federal Aviation Administration for Spaceport Camden.

“In the 20th century Camden County was declared the ‘Gateway to Space.’ With this license, we have retained that title again in the 21st century,” said Steve Howard, Camden County Administrator and Spaceport Camden executive project lead. “This once in a generation opportunity will provide a new frontier of economic prosperity for Camden, the region and the state of Georgia. Georgia is part of the new space race, and we will become one of the leaders,” added Howard.

If you need assistance scheduling your flu vaccination our local health clinics are open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Camden County Seeks Applicants for the
Coastal Workforce Development Board
The Camden County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants from the hospitality industry to fill one (1) vacancy on the Coastal Workforce Development Board (CWDB) as a County representative. The CWDB is a unique group of private/public community leaders charged with planning and oversight responsibilities for workforce programs and services in the 10-county region. The CWDB brings together leaders of the private sector, public agencies, education, labor and community-based organizations to focus on the regional labor force, regional economy and the local community needs.


Free Transportation
The Camden County Board of Commissioners and the St. Marys City Council have partnered with the Coastal Regional Commission to provide free transportation services for all Camden residents. Citizens that reside within unincorporated Camden County and the Cities of St Marys, Kingsland, and Woodbine will be eligible to ride free anywhere within Camden County.

Please Note: The service will not deviate from the normal operational procedures of the CRC transit program. Hours of operation, scheduling and safety procedures will remain. Any requested trip outside Camden County the rider will be charged the normal $3.00 per one-way trip.

This new transportation benefit is paid through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and is effective immediately. This program will cease once all dedicated funds have been expended.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month
January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Early stage cervical cancer usually doesn't have any symptoms which is why getting a Pap test is so important.

Women ages 21 - 64 without insurance who meet income criteria can get pelvic exams and Pap tests at no cost through our Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.

Two Rivers Gun Range
The range is located on GA Hwy 110, approximately one mile north of the intersection with GA Hwy 40 in extreme southwest Camden County. Two Rivers Gun Range is open six days a week.
Georgia Rental Assistance Program
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs is administering the State of Georgia Rental Assistance Program (GRA). GRA can help renters with their past due rent and utilities. Payment will be made directly to landlords and utility providers. Get started online at: https://georgiarentalassistance.ga.gov.

All Camden County residents are strongly encouraged to sign-up for CodeRED online at www.camdencountyga.gov/codeRED to receive emergency notifications and location-specific severe weather warnings. Notifications may be sent to cell phones or landlines and through email and text. The service is TDD/TTY compatible.
