DR. LISA AVERY,
LBCC PRESIDENT
|
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! As you receive our college’s e-newsletter this month, I hope you are getting ready to spend some safe and restful time with family and friends. At LBCC, we have many reasons to celebrate this season of gratitude. Here are just a few:
I want to thank our volleyball coach Jayme Frazier for her outstanding leadership in coaching our volleyball team to its NWAC Championship. What an exciting win! Our LBCC sports teams are not just composed of amazing athletes, but of outstanding scholars who consistently achieve high GPAs as well as wins on the court. It is this kind of holistic focus that has also resulted in Jayme being named NWAC Coach of the Year. Thank you, Jayme, for your service to our students!
I also want to recognize Angie Klampe, one of the incredible advisors we have at LBCC. It is Angie’s job to help guide students to lay out a direct path to success in college, and into rewarding jobs in our community. Angie was just named the winner of the Carolyn DesJardins Leadership Award for the Oregon chapter of American Association of Women in Community Colleges.

Ali Zarrugh: ‘Never Give Up on Your Goals’
|
Five years ago, Ali Zarrugh arrived in the United States. In January of this year he graduated from Linn-Benton Community College’s phlebotomy program. Today, he works as a phlebotomist at Samaritan Hospital. When it came to going to school and graduating with a certificate in healthcare, he attributes his success to perseverance and a little help from LBCC.

Linn’s Legacy of Lifelong Learning
|
It’s been 15 years since Emily Stordahl’s late husband, Linn Stordahl, retired from Linn-Benton Community College, but she still lights up every time she mentions the effect he had on his students. “When we lived in Albany and he would go to the grocery store, people would remember him and tell him how much he helped change their lives,” Stordahl said. “He was a listener and a leader by example.”

Hannah Briggs: 'If I can do it, why not do it?'
|
Linn-Benton Community College prides itself on encouraging students to explore their passions, even if they don’t have exact goals set for themselves yet. For Hannah Briggs, however, her goals were already in sight, and LBCC gave her the edge she needed to meet them in record time.

We are thankful for our faculty and staff and their commitment to helping students reach their dreams! We are thankful for LBCC alumni, who serve as frontline healthcare workers, technicians, business owners – and more – throughout the Willamette Valley. Our community would not be as strong without them! We are thankful for our donors, who give so very generously so that LBCC students can overcome the financial barriers before them. They are rays of light shining down on future generations. We are thankful for our amazing, resilient students who continue to pursue their educational goals, striving for a better future despite a worldwide pandemic. They inspire us every day!
