Submit Your Comments on the USDA's Draft Environmental Documents for Deregulation of American Chestnut Developed Using Genetic Engineering

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is inviting public comment on two draft documents involving a petition from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY) seeking deregulation of an American chestnut variety modified for tolerance to chestnut blight. The first document is a draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that examines the potential environmental impacts, and the second is a draft Plant Pest Risk Assessment (DPPRA) that considers potential plants pest risks. Concluding Event in the 2022 Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series

"Development of Regulatory Guidance for Products of Agricultural Biotechnology" was the final webinar conducted as part of the Agricultural Biotechnology Seminar Series in 2022. Taking place on November 22, 2022, this virtual by-invitation-only event covered activities carried out by Canadian regulators to date for the purpose of developing new guidance focused on plant breeding, including those developed through gene editing, in order to enhance clarity and predictability surrounding the oversight of these products.

OECD Safe by Design Pilot Project Drafting Group Face-to-Face Meeting

AFSI is acting as co-lead, together with the Government of the Netherlands, on a pilot project to refine a proposal for the OECD's Working Party on the Safety of Novel Foods and Feeds and the Working Party on the Harmonisation of Regulatory Oversight in Biotechnology to consider the development of a Safe by Design Document. In order to facilitate the work of the drafting group for this pilot project, AFSI hosted a face-to-face meeting in Washington, DC on November 7-8, 2022.
