 IMPORTANT UPDATE  SUMMER ON CAMPUS

For those coming to campus this summer, please review the in-person COVID-19 protocols below. For complete UH guidance, please go to https://maui.hawaii.edu/health-center/coronavirus-update/

Face masks are now required indoors except when working alone or separated from others by at least six feet. Restoration of this practice, consistent with current CDC recommendations, was recommended by UH medical and public health experts and the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Health and affirmed by UH leadership.

Campus officials may further specify areas where face masks are required to enhance safety.

The indoor face mask requirement will remain in place and be re-evaluated when the level of COVID-19 transmission in the state decreases. All members of the UH community should continue to monitor your hawaii.edu email and UHNews.org for updates.

For those returning to campus after quarantine or isolation, face masks must be worn around others in all settings – including outdoors – for the remainder of the 10-day period.

If you test positive for COVID-19, stay home and isolate for at least 5 days (until you are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and your symptoms are improving).

Full or Up-to-date vaccination is required for employees and students in specific UH programs or courses (medical, nursing, social work, dental hygiene, etc.) where they are embedded within partner institutions that require vaccination.

We strongly recommended that you stay home when feeling ill, whether with COVID-19 or not, to recover and prevent community spread.

If you need a COVID test, please call the Campus Health Center at 984-3493 to schedule an appointment. If you have medical insurance, please bring your medical card and ID when you come for testing. But you do not need medical insurance to get a test. The testing is free.

NEW  A HEARTWARMING STORY ABOUT PATRICIA ADAMS

Patricia Adams (“Pat”) was a longtime faculty member at UH Maui College, where she first taught English and later served as Interim Assistant Dean of Instruction. She helped many of UHMC’s faculty with contract renewals and tenure documents, and she spent countless hours helping them improve their classroom teaching.

She was beloved by students, administrators, and support staff, who honored her with a study area and a plaque commemorating her lasting contribution to Maui’s community.

Joe and Jean Adams, Pat’s son and daughter-in-law, recently established the Patricia Jean Adams Memorial Fund in Pat’s honor and in appreciation for Maui College’s expressions of affection to their mother. You can read the whole story here.
