Streetscape Kickoff Breakfast Celebrates
Community, Commitment, and Bursts of Color
Youngstown CityScape kicks off Streetscape 2024 at a breakfast on Friday, March 15th at 8:00 a.m. As the non-profit community development organization dedicated to revitalization of downtown and the greater downtown Youngstown area, we welcome volunteers, supporters, sponsors, and the community to join us at our new offices in the IBM Building, 250 E. Federal Street for wonderful food, good company, and the reveal of this year’s Streetscape theme!
The Streetscape Kickoff Breakfast is a free, fun way to salute spring and build excitement for this year’s Planting Day. What better way to celebrate the spring equinox AND the beginning of our annual Streetscape Planting Day campaign as we prepare to take on our biggest planting challenge ever – a six-fold increase in downtown greenspace! This year we are excited to hold this event at the IBM Building and show off CityScape’s new offices with an open house and tour!

Here's Looking at You Spring!
Happy February! My name is Jack, and I am Youngstown CityScape’s Greenhouse and Outdoor Director. Short form is I take care of the plants. Why should you read my tips? Well, I have over 30 years under my belt in horticulture and spent my career taking care of some of the most beautiful gardens in the world at Mill Creek MetroParks. Boom!
Early spring is a good time to start planning your garden. So, let's dig in

Everything Old is New Again! | Drive by CityScape’s new greenhouse facility, CityScape at Briel’s, at 23-29 S. Belle Vista Avenue, and you’ll see the renovations we’ve made over the past months. We acquired this 90+ year-old facility in 2021, knowing this was our only chance to save Youngstown’s last urban greenhouse and realize CityScape’s dream to grow our own flowers for downtown planting. Now we’re aligned to give the greenhouse a much-needed overhaul that will help boost the Mahoning Avenue business corridor, the city, and support neighborhood gardeners across the region. | | | |

Tree Corps Partnership To Green Up the Valley
Trees do more than add a pretty green element to the street, evoke a favorite memory, or produce a shady spot to sit. They are essential to our cities, much like schools and sewer lines. They improve our lives by absorbing pollutants, supply shade that lowers the chance of illness related to heat, provide jobs, and block wind so utility bills are lower. Over decades, cities across the country have been losing urban trees, the benefits they provide, and the people to care for them.

This is Going to be a Home Run!
Through Keep Youngstown Beautiful Litter League, the Youngstown City Health District is bringing our city into the Major Litter League, and Team Youngstown CityScape is itching to get up to bat! This statewide summer program motivates community members to strike out neighborhood litter and helps community groups, business/corporate groups, nonprofit/faith-based groups, and families/individuals get involved, compete for their team, win prizes, and clean up our city.
Opening Day is Saturday, June 1st and the season runs until Saturday, August 31st.

It’s our mantra. It’s our makeup. It’s our rally cry. It’s our voice. It speaks to our first steps at standing tall and shouting out that WE are who and what makes up the Downtown of The City of Youngstown. We Are: Still Here. We Are: Still In Youngstown, with our arms open wide, hoping to see everyone support each other and reach the other side of the chaos of what’s happening in our community.
You Ready? Then, let’s go. Join in, with We Are: A Generation, to get engaged in the work to restore our city.
