Professional Member Spotlight
Lesly Cortez
CBRE
Lesly initially engaged IFMA with a goal to get more involved with the Local Chapter and explore how CBRE could help support some of its efforts. Since her involvement last year, she’s had the opportunity to sponsor several events and is now part of the programs committee in an effort to put forth educational events that will serve professionals in facilities management with educational resources.

She’s currently responsible for business development growth in the PNW for CBRE GWS| Local FM. GWS Local is a tailored facility management solution at a local level with access to the Global CBRE GWS platform. They self-deliver hard services and manage soft services through trusted best-in-class partners. Partnership with Local also provides access to our “Best in Class” additional services: Sustainability and Energy Programs, Project Management, Moves & Changes, Security Consulting, Workplace Strategy, and Host Workplace Experience.
The thing she loves most about her job is helping clients develop facilities management solutions that enable them to drive efficiencies within their portfolios.
She believes that cultivating top FM talent in the market place is essential to deliver these outcomes.
Associate Member Spotlight
Cindy Strickland
Celebrating 25 Years with Seattle IFMA!
Cindy has been involved in IFMA for 25 years. She became involved in IFMA to learn about the challenges and rewards of the facility management profession so she could understand how to be of service. However, in addition to the education and learning that IFMA provides, making connections over the years and connecting people has been the greatest reward. Cindy has been part of the IFMA Membership Committee for the majority of her time with IFMA.

Cindy’s role at MillerKnoll is to provide solutions for the way people work and how a workplace functions. MillerKnoll is a design driven manufacturer of office furniture.
Core Competency - Digital Transformation
Our chapter is committed to serving our members with education in ways that meet your needs. In 2023, we have structured our education around an IFMA Core Competency each month.

In February, we are focusing our content on the Information Technology competency, Facility Information Management and Technology Management Course and sharing a white paper about Digital Transformation: Technology changes quickly. Organizations change slowly.
Digital transformation (DT) has been an ongoing phenomenon for over a decade, but it took the COVID-19 pandemic to catapult many organizations into a digital-first world. With an overwhelming range of digital opportunities, where do you start? IFMA’s newly released white paper summarizes findings from their 2022 Executive Summit. It outlines critical DT trends shaping the business community and the implications for FM, highlights how DT impacts knowledge/skills development and transfer, and provides recommendations for navigating DT.

Benchmarking Data for 2022 Calendar Year Due by July 1st, 2023
Seattle's Energy Benchmarking Law (Seattle Municipal Code 22.920) requires owners of non-residential and multifamily buildings (20,000 square feet or larger) to track energy performance and annually report to the City of Seattle.

The City of Seattle annually publishes building energy performance data from more than 3500 of Seattle's largest commercial and residential buildings representing 375 million square feet at data.seattle.gov and through a data visualization site to facilitate transparency in the market and spur demand for energy efficiency.

**Notice of Violations Issued to Buildings Owners for Failure to Submit 2021 Benchmarking Reports**
A full year of accurate 2021 performance data was due to the City of Seattle by July 1, 2022. Building owners who failed to submit a 2021 benchmarking report by the end of the extended enforcement grace period (January 2, 2023) were issued a Notice of Violation (NOV) with accrued penalties for continued non-compliance based on building size (Buildings 20,000 to 49,999 SF - $1,000 fine; Buildings 50,000 SF or greater - $2,000 fine). More information on enforcement and the appeals process here.
