Friends,

Thanks and congratulations to our friends at BETA.MN for their State of the State event last night celebrating the best of what entrepreneurship in Minnesota has to offer. Downtown Saint Paul was well represented at the event that featured Jeff Aguy, Scott Burns, Morris Goodwin, Steve Grove (all of whom are based in downtown Saint Paul) talking about latest from our tech, startup, and innovation sectors.

Also congratulations to Terry John Zilla who has expanded his footprint from Hepcat Coffee to the brand new Gallery Kitchen (both in Osborn370). He hosted a preview event this week and those that were lucky enough to attend can attest that this is a very tasty addition to downtown Saint Paul. Be on the lookout for more information on how to check it out yourself soon.

This figures to be a very busy weekend in downtown Saint Paul. The Great Northern continues through this weekend and if you haven’t yet, please make a point of checking out the signature piece in this years festival called Iregular: Our Common Home found throughout Lowertown. There are also events including the Cinch Rodeo happening at the Xcel Center, Roy Wilkins, and RiverCentre. PLUS, the Annual Torchlight parade and all the festivities of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival will be happening as well. Traffic might get a little gummed up so plan ahead and give yourself a little extra time – more details on that are below. It will be busy down here this weekend!

That’s all for now. Have a great weekend and see you around downtown.

Saint Paul Winter Carnival ice carvings tout special inspiration

The Saint Paul Winter Carnival is all about embracing the magic and the cold of winter. Every year, the ice carvings capture our imagination. They've also captured the imagination of some young artists from Children's Minnesota.

Traffic delays expected in Saint Paul on Saturday

There might be a Saturday downtown slowdown in the capital city. People planning to attend events in or around downtown Saint Paul or Lowertown on Saturday should allow extra time and use alternate routes if possible. Xcel Energy Center, located on Kellogg Boulevard at West Seventh Street, issued the alert about heavier traffic via a news release on Thursday.
