Letter from the Principal

Trivium is a busy place to be these days, and we could not be more delighted. In the midst of more Covid activity, we are still maintaining a normal environment for our students. They have been real troopers and are glad to be learning in school. We are doing all we can to keep everyone safe.
Open enrollment is happening now. Help us spread the word to your friends about our school. We had a prospective elementary parent meeting last week and a secondary meeting last night. Our best recommendations come from our parents since they have personal experience with our school.
We are enjoying our weekly elementary assemblies on Monday mornings now. We have moved inside to the gym to celebrate our Nobel Knight Award recipients. We celebrate those who are selected by their teachers for upholding the KNIGHT code: Kindness, Nobility, Integrity, Graciousness, Honesty, and Trustworthiness, with a certificate and a round of applause. The award is organic in that there is no set number of awards or specific grade levels. Parents are notified to attend the ceremony, but the students do not know until their names are called. My favorite part is that our students cheer for them and are so excited for the winners. Elementary students are enjoying the assemblies and so are we.
Our Knight and Day Coffee Company is selling more hot cocoa than coffee these days. Our elementary students love standing in line and ordering their cocoa. It's a great way to start Fridays. Soon we will open the lobby to parents once students get prepared to serve our delicious coffee (hot and cold). Students are working on order forms, so we can have your choice ready to go.
This next week we will celebrate School Choice week. There will be activities and fun for all. We thank you all for choosing us. We are grateful for our families and the support you give us.
Proud to be a Knight,
Marsha Cawthon
Principal

As we take on the newest variant of COVID-19, we continue to implement the same precautions that we've been maintaining for almost 2 years now. We are sanitizing, handwashing, encouraging social distancing, and notifying parents of close contacts. We are encouraging mask wearing during the spike to slow the spread. We will get through this spike together.
While the Texas Education Agency has released new quarantine guidance for school staff who have COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone who does, there is no change to the quarantine period for students at this time. The quarantine period for students remains at 10 days following the Texas Department of State Health Services which schools must follow. TEA Commissioner Mike Morath said districts should expect updates to the student part of the quarantine guidance, but to date, no changes have been made. We will keep you posted if anything does change.

To report an absence please email a parent note or medical excuse for each absence to attendance@triviumacademytx.com. Include the student’s name, grade, and homeroom teacher. You may attach doctor’s notes to the email or turn them in to the front office. After three parent notes, our school policy requires a medical note to excuse an absence.
Elementary (K-6th) Attendance is taken daily at 9:20am.
Secondary (7-11) Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class period. Official attendance for the day is taken at 9:30.
If your student is marked absent an auto generated email is sent to the parent if that option has been selected in the Parent Portal. These emails will always state that the absence is unexcused. Also, students who are quarantining due to COVID-19 will be marked absent by the homeroom teacher. The attendance office will later code the absence appropriately based on the documentation received.
As a public school, we must follow Texas Education Code (TEC) 25.092 which states that a student may not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90% of the days the class is offered. That means a student may only be absent seven times in the fall semester and nine times in the spring semester to retain credit for the grade level. If your child has absences beyond those numbers, you may be asked to appear before the attendance committee. The attendance committee may give class credit to a student who is in attendance less than the number of days required because of extenuating circumstances.
We take the responsibility of educating our students seriously, and excessive absences can hinder a student’s progress and the school’s ability to provide for his/her educational needs. We do understand that children get ill, and we certainly understand when they are too sick to come to school. We appreciate your help in making sure your child is present for school at all other times.

School Choice Week
January 24-28
|
|
National School Choice week is coming! We look forward to this week every year as a chance to celebrate both the right to choose the best school for our children and all the things that we love about our school!
|
|
Let's talk about secondary engagement! Often times, once students enter their secondary years, school can become mundane and heavily focused on "making the grade." At Trivium, our teachers are always looking for ways to keep the learning both fun and active. The philosophy of active and engaging learning doesn't stop at 6th grade. If you take a Trivium tour in the secondary world, you'll see debating, collaboration, book club discussions, science experiments, fun activities, and so much more! We're so proud of our model and the teachers who work hard every day to uphold the mission.

Girls Basketball
The Lady Knights are currently at mid season. We have seen tremendous growth over the first half of the season. The Lady Knights have a great press that other teams have a hard time breaking and our 2-3 zone is hard to beat. The Lady Knights are a young team and are looking to the future for more great things to happen.
|
|
At the midpoint of the 2021–22 season, the Knights Boy's Basketball team maintains its great attitude, learning and adjusting their skills to be more and more competitive. The team's shooting, ball handling and passing are improving greatly as the season moves on. Playing in an extremely competitive division, full of bigger, stronger and older players, the young Knight team puts forth great effort, showing the kind of determination, grit and will to succeed that makes the school proud as can be. Go Knights!
