Spin E-bike/E-Scooter Share to
Launch in Fort Collins on July 26
|
|
Pending contract finalization, Spin, which operates in communities across North America and Europe, will begin operations in Fort Collins on July 26, 2021. The City, CSU, and Spin held a ribbon cutting and demonstration Friday, July 9.
The City and CSU are excited to provide Fort Collins with a new e-bike and e-scooter share program, an innovative addition to the City’s suite of equitable and sustainable transportation options. Spin’s e-scooters and e-bikes will be located throughout the city and CSU campus. Users can access and rent the devices through the Spin app.
Some locations in Fort Collins, like the Old Town dismount zone, will be geofenced, meaning devices will not be allowed to operate within the ‘fenced’ dismount zone area. The City’s operating and parking rules for e-bikes and e-scooters will also apply to Spin devices.
Spin will operate daily, except between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.
Spin e-bikes and e-scooters cannot currently be brought onto Transfort buses, although the City is beginning conversations to see if changing that rule is possible. Spin e-scooters and e-bikes will be parked at several key Transfort bus stops and stations, and can help residents begin or complete trips involving Transfort.
One exciting component of the Spin program is its adaptive bike delivery program, which is intended to serve Fort Collins’ disability and older adult community members. Fort Collins residents will be able to request an adaptive bike (trike, recumbent trike, or handcycle) via webform, by calling Spin customer support, or by emailing support@spin.pm. Spin staff will deliver the device to the riders’ requested location. Riders can rent the adaptive bikes at no cost for an extended period of time. Information on this program can be found on the City’s Spin web site.
To support low-income residents, Spin offers the ‘Spin Access’ program for eligible residents who wish to receive discounted rates by providing proof of income or enrollment in city, state, or federally funded programs such as the SNAP/EBT, Health First Colorado (Medicaid), TANF, WIC, or HUD Housing Choice Vouchers. Multiple cash payment options are also available for unbanked users.
The program’s launch follows an e-scooter pilot program between the City, CSU, and Bird. That program ended on May 31, 2021, and its success resulted in the City and CSU issuing an RFP (request for proposals) for a more permanent vendor. Spin was selected as a result of that process. Fort Collins’ previous bike share program, Pace, ended in May of 2020 because the company ceased operations.
To learn more about the Spin program, visit the City’s Spin web site at: www.fcgov.com/spin. Spin’s website is: www.spin.app.

Calling all Vendors for
Sept. 18 Open Streets!
|
|
Open Streets returns to Fort Collins on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. This year we’re hosting our event along Jackson Ave. and City Park Ave. Open Streets events aim to create a temporary car-free environment to highlight all the possible uses for our public streets other than moving cars.
Open Streets vendors are grouped into small clusters of 10-15 other local businesses and organizations called Activity Hubs. Activity Hubs are located along the event route with plenty of open space in between for participants to play, stroll, bike, scoot or skate along. Open space is programmed with activities like Chalk the Block, where participants create a full street of chalked art. Within Activity Hubs, vendors provide free, fun, engaging activities for participants. Vendors create their free activity, and are then able to connect with 100s of participants throughout the event. Activity Hubs also include food trucks, live music, participatory arts activities, places to sit and relax, and of course feature the main course of the event: you and your organization! While vendors come up with their own ideas for free activities, we’re also here to help you plan! Contact us to brainstorm ideas to help you get the most out of your participation.
Ready to register or looking for more information? Head to www.fcgov.com/openstreets to view our updated Vendor and Sponsor Guide. Registration ends Aug. 6, 2021, so apply today!
Looking to get a little more out of Open Streets? We’ve revamped our event sponsorship options to meet various needs and support key elements of our event plan. Check out our Vendor and Sponsor Guide for our all-new sponsor categories, or contact us to discuss your options.
