Demolition Begins on Downtown Buildings
The downtown properties affected by the 2022 fire began demolition this week and can take up to six weeks to complete. The westbound lane of E. Lee Avenue is reopened but the eastbound lane will remain closed during the process. A portion of S. Pollard Street will also be closed to through traffic. Downtown businesses are still open and residents are encouraged to continue to visit them.

New Library Bike Rack Installed
Thanks to funding from the Cox Foundation, Friends of the Blue Ridge was able to partner with RIDE Solutions to help localities make bicycle parking more accessible in the Roanoke Region. This all new bike rack is installed and stationed at the Vinton Library.
Happy Birthday Vinton!
The Town of Vinton celebrated its 139th birthday last month. Vinton was incorporated as a town on March 17th 1884 and began with a population of 584 and a land area of 1.5 square miles. We've since grown a little and now have a population of over 8,000 and a land area of 3 square miles! Thank you to all of our residents and businesses who have helped us grow over the years!

Infrastructure Improvements
  • The E. Cleveland Water Line Replacement Project continues and is expected to be completed in spring. Roads will be repaved once completed - Learn More Here
  • Walnut Avenue Phase 1 improvements from 5th St. to Roanoke City limit have resumed
  • S. Pollard Street will experience temporary closures and detours due to new business utility connections and demolition of the fire-affected properties for 4 - 6 weeks
  • A portion of the eastbound lane in the 100 block of E. Lee Ave. remains temporarily closed due to debris from the fire-affected properties for 4 - 6 weeks
