Apply Now for the CoMotion Miami Mobility Challenge Powered by I-STREET
The CoMotion Miami Mobility Challenge is an event that focuses on improving mobility on the current infrastructure using emerging technologies and associated data. This year, the challenge will be powered by I-STREET (University of Florida, City of Gainesville, and Florida Department of Transportation). Eligible applicants include mobility companies and student teams from Florida universities. Learn more here.

Algorithm Created to Identify Traveler Coordination Groups & Improve Efficiency in Route Decisions
Several apps such as Waze and Google Maps provide ways for travelers to share routing decisions with each other. These apps aggregate the data to provide information on the best routes to take and the time it takes to arrive at their destinations. But exactly who are the travelers that others should be coordinating with? Doctoral Candidate Wang Peng worked on a National Science Foundation funded project to create an adaptive centroid-based clustering algorithm (ACCA) that identified traveler clusters. This work has important implications for other apps used for ridesharing, parking, and evacuation. Read more.

Young Professionals in Transportation Learn about I-STREET
UFTI professor and director Dr. Lily Elefteriadou showcased I-STREET to the Young Professionals in Transportation Orlando Chapter on March 26th. The presentation was hosted and organized by former students Tyler Valila, PE and Megan McGinley, EI. I-STREET is a real-world testbed located in Gainesville, Florida which leverages a multimodal roadway network and emerging transportation technologies to advance safety, mobility, workforce development, and innovation.

Webinars
Webinar speakers: Dr. Meadows, Carey Wilson, and Dr. Michalaka

STRIDE Webinar:
Adapting K-12 Programs to a Virtual Environment during COVID-19
The speakers will discuss two STRIDE programs that were adapted for online implementation due to COVID-19 restrictions during the summer of 2020. Dr. Michalaka of The Citadel taught a weeklong “Tour of Engineering” virtual summer camp organized by the South Carolina Governor’s School of Science and Mathematics. Tennessee Technological University developed and implemented an innovative, online STEM in Motion training for high school math and science teachers.

DATE: Wed., April 14, 2021
TIME: 12 PM, ET
Webinar speakers: Dr. Rod Turochy and Dr. Virginia Sisiopiku.
STRIDE Webinar: Traffic Simulation Parameters, Merge Configurations, & Modeling for Freeway Work Zones
This STRIDE study examined several aspects of the modeling of freeway work zones in order to better inform traffic engineers charged with making decisions on their planning and design. The researchers will discuss their results and recommendations, including how this study has laid the groundwork for the use of stochastic approaches to determine the capacity of freeway lane closures, so that the probability of breakdown and resultant queuing can be estimated.
