Tomorrow we celebrate gratitude. The state of being thankful.
Tomorrow we will also celebrate traditions. The famous cranberry sauce, the best homemade stuffing, the one chosen to carve the turkey, and the long awaited recital of what we're thankful for before we stuff ourselves senseless. Whatever the plan, wherever it takes place, our wishes for each of you during the holiday is to embrace those you're with and enjoy whatever definition of Thanksgiving you make effort to honor.
If you've scrolled social media or flipped on the television, you know that their is a plethora of heartache in our neighboring communities. We also know that there is sadness and misfortune happening right here in our own community and possibly our own home. This Thanksgiving, I encourage you to be the counter measure to the harsh realities of this world. To the pain and to the afflictive actions of others, let's be grace. Let's be kindness. Let's be thankful and extend our compassion in a tangible expression of gratitude.
This holiday season is an opportunity for each and every one of us to not only be thankful, but to act thankful. Let's be better. Let's be better so those that are near us feel encouraged. Wherever you find yourself this upcoming holiday, start a tradition by leaving a wake of actionable gratitude. Hold the door. Hold someone's hand. Say grace and mean it. Serve yourself last. Wash the host's dishes. Give up your seat on the oversized sofa and watch the afternoon football game from the folding chair. Yes, we know it squeaks and it's cold, do it anyway.
My mind keeps singing, "if you're happy and you know it, clap your hands". So, to change it up for this holiday, "if you're thankful and you know it, extend a hand". Funny thing, when I say it out loud, I still clap at the end!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Friends!
Be safe. Be better. Enjoy!
