What Parents Need to Know About COVID Variants
Dear Walkers,

Thank you to those of you who joined us live for our January 2022 virtual Walk with a Doc!

For the January 2022 Nevada AAP Walk with a Doc, we welcomed Dr. Terence McAllister who gave a brief, family-friendly talk on What Parents Need to Know About COVID Variants and then took your questions live.  Watch the replay here.
Guidance on Mask Exemptions in Children and Adolescents
Click here to view the Guidance on Mask Exemptions Dr. McAllister talked about during today's event.

In most cases, a child who is unable to wear a mask safely for medical reasons should not attend school in person, especially in an outbreak setting or in a community with substantial or high transmission.

This guidance does not replace conversations between parents and their medical home about the risks and benefits of individual children attending school in person or using only remote learning during the pandemic.
AAP Parenting Resources
The American Academy of Pediatrics offers parents up-to-date medical information on a wide range of pediatric topics. Here are a few on-point with our talk this month.

Stay Connected to Care
Special Note for Medicaid MCO patients: On Jan 1, 2022, many Nevada families were switched to a new MCO plan to help evenly distribute patients among the four available Medicaid plans in Nevada. Families may have been switched to a plan their preferred pediatrician is not credentialed with.

Not sure what plan you are in? Patients can register for and use a Access Nevada account to look up their current plan.

While using the Access Nevada system, patients should verify their mailing address. Critical information is sent to patients from Medicaid through traditional mail. Missed mail may lead to a loss of insurance and access to care.
Next Walks on
Sunday, February 13 (English)
Sunday, February 20 (Spanish)
Keeping schools open and safe is our first priority, so for now we're keeping our family events virtual to reduce the spread of COVID. When the COVID infection rate decreases, we will resume our in-person walks in Las Vegas and Reno.

In the meantime:
  • Keep walking every day
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Bring water
  • Keep 6 feet from other people
  • For everyone 2 years and older, wear a mask when you aren't vaccinated and can't socially distance

We hope to "see" you at our future virtual walks. We will send registration details and a flyer soon.
