ANNOUNCEMENTS
California Law to Implement Better Mental Health in Schools

The back and forth in school instruction, and isolation because of the pandemic, not only cut into a child’s learning but also impacted their mental health. Now a new California law wants to build a foundation of mental health education in schools across the state.

Senate Bill 224 requires school districts to give a mental education course at least once during elementary, middle, and high school.

CA Eases Access to Mental Health Care

Jocelyn Wiener explains California’s new mental health parity law in a “New law in a minute” video produced by Rhonda Lyons.

Independent Medical Review & Complaint Process

If your health plan denies, changes, or delays your request for medical services, denies payment for emergency treatment or refuses to cover experimental or investigational treatment for a serious medical condition, you can apply for an Independent Medical Review (IMR).

You can also file a Consumer Complaint when you have other issues with your health plan. These issues can consist of billing problems, cancellation of coverage, claim and copay disputes, delays in getting an appointment, referral or authorization, access to translation services, finding an in-network doctor, hospital, or specialist, complaints about a doctor or plan and continuity of care.

DHCS Comprehensive Quality Strategy

On December 28, 2021, the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) released the draft 2022 DHCS Comprehensive Quality Strategy (CQS) report for a 30-day public comment and tribal review period.

Public comment can be submitted to DHCSComprehensiveQualityStrategy@dhcs.ca.gov by January 27, 2022.
