SUMA Named One of Saskatchewan's
Top Employers for 2022

SUMA has been recognized as one of Saskatchewan's top employers for 2022.

First published in 2006, Saskatchewan Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada's Top 100 employers. This year's winners were announced on March 1 in a special magazine feature in the Regina Leader-Post and Saskatoon Star Phoenix.

Training for Local Boards of Revision

Municipalities are responsible for property assessment appeals at the first level. Legislation requires every municipal council to appoint a board of revision. They may decide to appoint their own board of revision, establish or join a district board with other municipalities, or contract a private board. To help municipalities with having a qualified Board of Revision, an online training program has been developed.

All board members and secretaries are being encouraged to take the training developed through a partnership involving the Ministry of Government Relations, the Board of Revision Renewal Stakeholder Steering Committee, and Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy (JSGS).

Although focused on the board of revision work and property assessment appeals, any person involved in the work of other appeal bodies could benefit from the administrative justice training offered in the course.
Register Now For SUMA's Next Webinar on Asset Management

Much like personal vehicle maintenance, asset management is best done proactively. Proper and timely evaluations uncover areas where scheduled and special maintenance are required; providing some protection against major issues, and in turn saving money and extending the life of the vehicle. Furthermore, being proactive helps maintain and even extend the value of the vehicle and its service, while providing better returns on investment.

For local governments, asset management helps understand and evaluate the community’s assets and provides direction as to the best way to manage them over the long-term. Comprehensive asset management goes beyond assessment to understand the real value of municipal assets today, as well as helping municipal leaders plot future benefits to align the asset with the local government’s overall strategy.

Register to join SUMA on March 15 for the webinar Reactive to Proactive: The Benefits of Strategic Asset Management and learn about the benefits of proactive asset management.

Spring Update from Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers

Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization that combines the efforts of the public, media, and police to assist in solving crime in Saskatchewan's communities.

CONVENTION 2022
Get Ready for Resolutions

Prepare for the resolutions session at Convention 2022 by reviewing the resolutions package. This package has been updated with an additional resolution that was missed in the original package sent out to the membership. We encourage members to get familiar with the resolutions and the session procedures - there are 24 resolutions this year.

Elected officials have two options to attend Resolutions at Convention 2022 - in-person or online. SUMA has introduced virtual debate and voting options for Resolutions, Election of SUMA President, and the SUMA AGM.

Mayors and councillors who are unable to attend Convention in-person can register to participate online in these select sessions. Both voting and non-voting delegates will be able to watch the presidential speeches and vote for SUMA's next president. For Resolutions and the SUMA AGM, online voting and non-voting delegates can participate in debate, and voting delegates will be able to vote. A unique link to vote will be sent to all elected officials registered to attend Convention in-person or participate online. All voting at Convention 2022 will be done electronically.

Learn more about registering for this online option.
Meet Our Tradeshow Vendors

It wouldn't be SUMA's annual convention without the tradeshow featuring products and services that municipalities use each day. And the 2022 Municipal Marketplace presented by Kinetic GPO won't disappoint.

Convention delegates will be able to browse tradeshow booths and connect with vendors on Monday, April 4 from 7:15 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Tuesday, April 5 from 7:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Municipal employees can also attend the tradeshow, for free, as tradeshow observers. Municipalities can register their tradeshow observers at the same time they register their other convention delegates.

Take a peek at the list of vendors who have already signed up.
Congratulations to Our Early-Bird Winner

A big thank you to all Convention delegates who registered before the early-bird deadline. All those delegates were entered into a draw to win a complimentary Convention registration. We drew a name and congratulations to Rachelle Kitz from the Town of Oxbow.

If you're still thinking about attending Convention but aren't sure, check out the Convention brochure to see everything we have planned. And be sure to register by March 21, as that's the day our registration system closes. You can still register afterward but there will be a $50 administration fee for late registrations.
