Graph 1 compares our monthly operating receipts to the prior year actual for the first four months of our fiscal year (July 2021 through June 2022). It further estimates our collection through our fiscal year end. You will notice two large collection points in our fiscal year. These two months are considerably higher due to real estate collection representing over 70% of our revenues.

North Royalton High School Construction Project Completed

Community Invited to Grand Opening on December 22

The North Royalton High School project is complete after a three year transformation of the entire campus. The community is welcome to a grand opening with self-guided tours on Wednesday, December 22 from 4-6:30 p.m.

Last spring, additional phases of interior renovations were completed and turned over to the District. This includes the new first and second floor humanities wing housing social studies, English, and world language classrooms along with centralized hub areas and a humanities teacher hub. Existing interior walls were replaced with new metal studs, drywall and finishes creating an improved learning environment while decreasing the sound transmission from room to room. Classrooms and adjacent spaces were modified to create large openings to the new hub areas and allow for installation of new electrical power/lighting and HVAC services.

The abatement and demolition of the front portions of the high school is complete. The two-story 300/400 section and Gymnasium 1 were all demolished over the summer making way for the new student parking lot and revealing the new façade to North Royalton High School. New roof, brick veneer, metal panels and curtain wall were installed to tie-in the existing portions of the building with the new addition and continuing the designed look of blending the old with the new. Additional improvements include landscaping, site lighting, concrete walks, a main entry courtyard, parking lots and drives. Finally, the last phase of interior renovations to the art, music, family consumer science and community room were completed at the end of October.

With the completion of these final phases of renovations and site development, the District has regained use of the entire building, including the centralized new main entrance. Students are once again able to park on campus as well.

“Thank you to our taxpayers. Without their support for education and what we do, this would not be possible,” said Superintendent Michael Laub, North Royalton City Schools. “I couldn't be more excited about these new learning spaces for our students and staff.”

“I am looking forward to giving our most recent graduates a chance to walk through the completed project,” said Principal Sean Osborne, North Royalton City Schools. “During their last years of school, these graduates had to endure some of the inconveniences of an active construction site. I think when they see the finished school they will more than agree it was worth it.”

Residents are invited to stay for the girls’ varsity basketball game that begins at 7 p.m. in the gym.

North Royalton Middle School Raises More than $9,000 in First Annual Walk-a-Thon for Kindness

North Royalton Middle School (NRMS) held its first Walk-a-Thon for Kindness on October 14, raising more than $9,000.   The event was initiated by the four student council advisors/teachers Amy Purnell, Sam Brown, Erin Stanowick and Beth O'Donnell, as well as teachers Sarah Franko and Gina Stabile.

Each student received a pledge form and was asked to raise donations. Because this was the first year doing this, every student walked even if they did not bring in any money.  Each grade level was assigned an hour time slot to walk continuously around the track and then each student was treated to a snowcone from the Kona Ice truck which was paid for by the NRMS PTA.

The school partnered the walk with Spirit Week and National Anti-Bullying Day. Some of the daily themes were: "We're all a team: We don't bully" and students wore their favorite team apparel. Another day was "Tie Us All Together" with Tye Dye, and the final day was called "Positively Purple" and students wore NoRo spirit wear. Many teams in the building also did lessons around kindness in connection with our school's anti-bullying program, OLWEUS. Additionally, members of the Student Council wrote positive messages in chalk and window paints outside the school entrances, and each teacher received a positive post-it note on their car one evening as another measure of spreading kindness.

The hope is for this event to become an annual fundraiser so that donations could be used to help any North Royalton Middle School families in need.

North Royalton High School Marching Band Season Ends on a High Note

Following a year of challenges in 2020 due to COVID-19, with only a limited number of performances and being online, the band students were eager to begin the 2021 marching band season. Essentially two freshman classes had to learn how to march, execute complicated drills and play their instruments at the high level expected by the school’s award-winning band program and fans. Band staff, and the leadership of the Band Senior class of 2022 rose to the challenge in teaching and leading all of the new band members. They kept their tradition of excellence that the community has all come to expect alive and well.

The goal for every season is to qualify and earn a Superior rating at the OMEA State Marching Band Finals in Columbus. This year was no exception. For the 31st consecutive year in a row, the North Royalton High School Marching Band earned a “1” Superior rating at OMEA State Finals on October 30. They also earned a Grand Champion & First Place award at their final regional competition at the Swanton High School Contest on October 23.

2021 North Royalton High School Marching Band accomplishments include:

North Royalton Festival of Bands – Plaque of Participation

Revere Contest – 3rd Place Class AA and Best Auxiliary Class AA

Avon Lake Contest – 2nd Place Class AA, Best General Effect, 1st Place Auxiliary and 1st Place Tie Percussion

Swanton Contest – 1st Place Class AA, Best Overall Visual, Best Overall General Effect, Best Overall Percussion and GRAND Champion Overall

OMEA State Finals – Superior 1 Rating Overall

“I am so proud of our band students and all they accomplished this season. They put a ton of time and effort into everything they achieved and accomplished,” said Band Director Chris Burdick. “They are an incredible group of students and an absolute joy to teach and work with. The band’s tremendous performance at state finals was epic!”

“The planning for this season began all the way back in the spring,” said Director of Bands, David Vitale. “It took careful planning from the staff, sincere effort from the leadership in the band, and hard work from everyone. I’m very pleased with how this season turned out. In addition to the trophies and accomplishments, I’m also glad that the two entire classes of ‘rookies’ got to experience working on a team of over 200 members and got to experience all the great parts of being in the band, ranging from the first day of band camp to state finals in Columbus.”

“It was amazing to watch our band put in so much hard work, and to watch it pay off at every contest we went to. It was an honor to work with and lead this group of hard working and talented individuals to another superior rating at the state contest,” said Senior Field Commander Tony Cottom.

“A lot of work has gone into making this marching season successful. It would not have been possible without our incredible band directors and all of the pit crew and uniform crew volunteers. I am very thankful for the amazing group of people I have worked with during this marching season,” said Band President Brendan Burdick.
