Opening Doors is pleased to announce the appointment of Rommel Loria as the new board chair for a three-year term from January 2023.

new board chair,” says Jessie Tientcheu, Chief Executive Officer of Opening Doors. “Rommel brings a wealth of experience and expertise to advance the

mission of Opening Doors.”

Rommel Loria comes with extensive experience working with independent schools where he promoted diversity and inclusive culture. He is currently Assistant Head of School at Sonoma Academy. Previously, Rommel worked as a practicing attorney in civil litigation with Brown & Sheehan in Baltimore, where he provided pro bono Immigration Legal Services to youth and families at the Esperanza Center.

Rommel earned a BS in Business Administration from Georgetown University and MA in Liberal Studies from Johns Hopkins University. He also holds a JD from the University of Maryland, where he was Associate Editor of the Maryland Law Review. 

The Department of State recently announced a new private refugee sponsorship program known as the Welcome Corps. Welcome Corps will expand upon the American tradition of welcome by providing the opportunity for everyday people to privately sponsor refugees from around the world complementary to existing refugee resettlement programs.

It will also expand our nation’s capacity to provide protection to refugees and walk alongside with them as they seek to build a future of their own choosing and creation.
