Second Welcome House Opened

Opening Doors has opened a Second Welcome House in the Sacramento region. This Welcome House will provide temporary housing for Ukrainian refugees as they seek permanent housing solutions. It is expected to host between 10 to 15 individuals and their families at a time.

“The opening of our Second Welcome House would not have been possible without the support and involvement of our Community of Welcome.  Furniture donations were received, and the pantry was stocked. Volunteers came to set up and clean. We are grateful for our Community of Welcome for their donation, time, and energy to ensure a warm welcome to our new neighbors,” says Analee Villalpando, Director of Programs at Opening Doors.

The launch of Opening Doors’ Second Welcome House is prompted by the success of its First Welcome House which opened in November 2021.

California’s housing crisis impacts refugees and immigrants greatly, and innovative approaches such as the Welcome House provides important temporary solutions.

Welcome Corps: Private Refugee Sponsorship

The Department of State recently announced a new private refugee sponsorship program known as the Welcome Corps. Welcome Corps will expand upon the American tradition of welcome by providing the opportunity for everyday people to privately sponsor refugees from around the world complementary to existing refugee resettlement programs.

It will also expand our nation’s capacity to provide protection to refugees and walk alongside with them as they seek to build a future of their own choosing and creation.
