NIH Funded Study Will Build a Tool to Help Patients Make Informed Thyroid Cancer Treatment Decisions.
Research underway at MedStar Health Research Institute led by Jacqueline Jonklaas, MD, and Kristi Graves, PhD, both Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Prevention and Control Program members, will empower patients with a new tool to help them decide whether to have radioactive iodine therapy after thyroid cancer surgery. Diversity in Cancer Research Summer 2023 Undergraduate Internship Program Now Accepting Applications
Program details:
- Ten-week full-time program available beginning June 5, 2023 ($5,000 stipend).
- In-person/virtual workshops, seminars, scientific meetings, mentoring and career development activities during the 2023-2024 academic year.
- Carefully matched mentors and peer mentors for each intern.
- Georgetown campus housing now offered for in-person interns

AACR Career Development Awards in Lung Cancer Research
The AACR Career Development Awards in Lung Cancer Research encourage and support early career investigators to conduct lung cancer research and establish successful careers in this field. The proposed project may be basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to lung cancer. Each award provides $250,000 over two years for expenses related to the research project. NOTE: Applicants must be AACR Active members. Nonmembers can apply for membership online. GI Program Funds Award
A newly established Ruesch Center / GI Working Group grant mechanism is currently soliciting research proposals for consideration. Funding will be available to Georgetown Lombardi and MedStar Health scientists and clinicians with a GI cancer-relevant research focus — basic, clinical, population and translational. This set of pilot grants is intended to foster translational collaborations and generate new hypotheses and results to prove them, leading to jointly authored publications. Between two and five one-year collaborative project awards are available, ranging from $25,000 to 50,000 each, with at least two investigators each. Breast Cancer Research Foundation Precision Prevention Initiative
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is requesting applications to its Precision Prevention Initiative. Applications should address the challenges and gaps in primary breast cancer prevention with a focus in one or more of the following categories: risk assessment/stratification, biomarkers, and interventions. Applicants are encouraged to engage collaborators from diverse disciplines and utilize, where possible, areas of expertise and/or methodologies not normally associated with prevention or cancer research. Projects range from single investigator innovation awards to collaborative pre-clinical, translational, clinical and intervention studies. In all cases, projects that impact underserved, minority or high-risk populations are encouraged. Funding levels range from $250,000/year for two years up to $750,000/year for three years. Cancer Screening Research Network Funding Opportunities
The National Cancer Institute Division of Cancer Prevention has released three funding opportunity announcements for applications to create the Cancer Screening Research Network (CSRN). The CSRN will conduct rigorous, multi-center cancer screening trials and studies to evaluate emerging technologies and strategies for the purpose of cancer screening. The CSRN will have three different components for an integrated network.
