Greetings from the Badger FFA,

It is again that time when the Badger FFA is selling delicious, fresh from the field strawberries. These strawberries are the first picks from Plant City, FL, the strawberry capital of the world! Strawberries are picked and placed on a truck to Wisconsin usually on the same day. CHANGES IN ACT TESTING

In order to give our students the best possible testing environment for the ACT, we will be making a few positive changes this spring. The ACT will be held on March 7th, 2023, and will be administered electronically using chromebooks. This will be a day for Juniors only; Freshman, Sophomores and Seniors will have no school on this day.

How will this help your student? There will be no distractions of bells or students in the hallway for passing periods. We will be able to spread our Juniors across more rooms, resulting in a more comfortable testing environment, and reducing testing anxiety. Additionally, all of our teachers will be engaged in an ACT role, allowing for multiple proctors per testing room. This practice helps ensure our testing integrity.

What has not changed? All Juniors are still required by the state to take the ACT.

We will also be using this same format for the PreACT Secure test taken by the Freshman and Sophomore students. This is the former ACT Aspire test. The PreACT Secure will be held on April 18th, 2023. Juniors and Senior students will have no school on this day.

Principal's Note

February is a short but very busy month at Badger.  We have started the process for selecting classes for the 2023-24 school year.  On Friday, February 3, your ninth through eleventh grade student will receive information on the Course Guide in their English class.  Our School Counselors will be on hand to discuss some grade specific topics focused on course selection.  Please note that our Course Guide is also available electronically through our school website - Badger Course Guide.

On February 6th and 9th our current ninth through eleventh grade students will meet with their period 3 teachers to discuss educational goals and select courses that move them closer to achievement of said goals.  I’d ask that you take time after February 6 to discuss opportunities and classes with your student.  I feel the most beneficial pages of the Course Guide (outside of a listing and description of all the classes offered) are pages 3-5.  In these pages you will find college and career requirements, The Academies of Badger, and a 4-year planning guide.  Creating the 4-year plan is very important to determining the sequence of courses needed to complete goals.

Course Selection is February 3-February 10.  Our School Counselors are also available to answer questions students may have about classes specific to their needs.  Encourage them to stop into the Counseling Center for assistance.

On February 6th our Senior class will meet in the auditorium and hear from Sam Ingo of Gateway Technical College.  Sam will discuss 4-year universities, technical colleges, heading out into the workforce, and other opportunities for our students.  On February 9th Seniors will complete two surveys in their period 3 class.  One focused on their Badger High School experience and the other focused on post high school plans.

February is also the month of double headers, the school winter play, and many more activities.  Hope to see you at these events.
