Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

Pastor Changsu's sermon Scripture will be:

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Psalm 33:16-22 Kings aren't saved by the strength of their armies; warriors aren't rescued by how much power they have. A warhorse is a bad bet for victory; it can't save despite its great strength. But look here: the Lord's eyes watch all who honor him, all who wait for his faithful love, to deliver their lives from death and to keep them alive during a famine. We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. Our heart rejoices in God because we trust his holy name. Lord, let your faithful love surround us because we wait for you.

Isaiah 9:2-7 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. On those living in pitch-dark light has dawned. You have made the nation great; you have increased its joy. They rejoiced before you as with joy at the harvest, as those who divide plunder rejoice. As on the day at Midian, you've shattered the yoke that burdened them, the staff on their shoulders, and the rod of their oppressor. Because every boot of the thundering warriors, and every garment rolled in blood will be burned, fuel for the fire. A child is born to us, a son is given to us, and authority will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be vast authority and endless peace for David's throne and for his kingdom, establishing and sustaining it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of the Lord of heavenly forces will do this.

Mark 1:4-8 John the Baptist was in the wilderness calling for people to be baptized to show that they were changing their hearts and lives and wanted God to forgive their sins. Everyone in Judea and all the people in Jerusalem went out to the Jordan River and were being baptized by John as they confessed their sins. John wore clothes made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. He announced, "One stronger than I am is coming after me. I'm not even worthy to bend over and loosen the strap of his sandals. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

2 Peter 1:3-8 By his divine power the Lord has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of the one who called us by his own honor and glory. Through his honor and glory he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, that you may share the divine nature and escape from the world's immorality that sinful craving produces. This is why you must make every effort to add moral excellence to your faith; and to moral excellence, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, endurance; and to endurance, godliness; and to godliness, affection for others; and to affection for others, love. If all these are yours and they are growing in you, they'll keep you from becoming inactive and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Whoever lacks these things is shortsighted and blind, forgetting that they were cleansed from their past sins.

If you would like the prayer team to pray for you or anyone you have concerns for, please email Julie Italiano at jbitaliano4@gmail.com. She will send it on to the prayer team.

You may also send prayer requests to Connie Perry in the office at connie@shawneeumc.org, or call the office at (913) 631-2280.

You may also pick up a paper copy of the prayer list at the church.

2023 Stewardship Campaign Update
First, I want to thank everyone who has submitted their 2023 Stewardship Pledge Cards to the office. Your pledge to financially support our church is critically important when planning next year’s activities. If you haven’t turned in your pledge card, PLEASE prayerfully consider doing so and either mail or bring to the church office as soon as possible.

Here’s an update so far from the numbers end….
One third of our families (giving units) have turned in a pledge card for 2023.
The pledged dollar amount so far is a bit more than half of our proposed budget for 2023.

Again, please consider what you can do financially in 2023, and know that it’s not all about the money – your time and talents are gifts to the church as well. So, thank you for all that you do!

Call if you want further details or have any questions.

Growing together,

HEIFER CHRISTMAS CARD PROJECT

– The Gift That Keeps Giving

We will be selling Heifer Project animals again this year in the Narthex from November 27 through December 18.

For those people who don’t know how Heifer Projects works, animals are given to people in third world countries, but the neat part of the program is that they are required to pass an offspring on to someone else the next year, so the gift continues to give.

Heifer Project also teaches people in third world countries better farming techniques, etc.  You can give an animal in the name of a relative or friend.  We have cards that you can give or send to the friend or relative telling them of your gift.

Children's socks gloves, hats, scarves

The Mission Committee will be collecting socks, gloves, hats, and scarves for children during the month of December.

Please put your donations in the container in the Narthex. Thank you.
