Plan Your Summer Escape
Have you ever returned from vacation and needed another vacation? It's easy to get caught up in the overscheduled trips with a jam-packed itinerary. Plan a long weekend to take a breather and leave the hustle and bustle behind. Spend your days meandering up and down The Great River Road, touring the estates and plantations, and visiting the swamps. It doesn't get more relaxing than that.
So book your room soon before summer slips by you.

Live Music in Dixie Cafe!
If you're looking for great food, live music, and an unforgettable venue, then look no further! Located in The Great River Road Museum, Dixie Cafe has live music and dinner every Friday! Dinner starts at 5 PM and available until 8 PM. Baton Rouge area bands will perform from 7 PM - 9 PM.
We recently had a great visit from a food writer who sat down with Executive Chef, Jeremy Langlois. This is a great two-part series with a glimpse into all things Houmas House.
Secrets From the Kitchen at Houmas House
If you've followed us on social media the last year, you've seen our weekly live cooking shows. Each Thursday Chef Jeremy Langlois has shared some of his favorite recipes while sprinkling in a little history. These cooking shows have brought a whole new dimension to our interaction with all of you and to our restaurants. Thank you for watching, commenting and letting us be part of your week.
Summer Lovin'
This month we are fully embracing Summer. It's fun to see how everything changes from season to season. But the changes aren't limited to the gardens. Throughout the entire property, there is always something new to experience. From seasonal menus, to new antiques, to additional buildings and exhibits, there is always a reason for a return visit.
In the 240 year history of this Estate, there have been over a dozen owners and it has undergone many transformations. In fact, if you watch this video you will see how Houmas House has grown into the estate it is today.

Thank you to all who have been part of this metamorphosis. Your visitation and interest in our history has allowed us to grow and add new experiences for you to enjoy. I hope to see you soon.

Love,
Princess Maggie

Author Olaf Schmidt tells the true story of Louise von Seybold, a young woman growing up in 19th century Bavaria, eager to escape the monotony of a predetermined life plan. Her dreams seem to come true when she falls in love with a handsome stranger named Valsin Bozonnier-Marmillion, who takes her across the ocean to live in one of Louisiana's most spectacular mansions. But what happens on the day of their arrival puts an end to all romantic cliches and leaves the couple in a state of shock. Louise and Valsin are forced to battle epidemics and personal illness, accidents and natural disasters, only to find their entire existence threatened by America's great tragedy, the Civil War. In almost 100 letters written to her mother and sisters in Bavaria, Louise creates a sweeping panorama of the American South during its historical downfall. Illustrated by countless images and documents, this book offers a uniquely authentic window into a period of history that continues to have a dramatic impact on contemporary United States culture and society.
This is a hardback book and measures 9"x11".
