Introducing SDSG's New Executive Director
Julia Metzger Brings Decades of Experience to SDSG
SDSG's Board of Directors and Leadership Team are delighted to announce the hiring of Julia Metzger as SDSG's new Executive Director.

Julia's leadership experience in the private sector and across civil society, government, academic, and other sectors in international development contribute to her abilities to leverage SDSG's global network of experts and advance our vision of a future where resource development respects human rights, aligns with the economic and social objectives of local communities, and protects the natural environment.

Building on SDSG's 15-year history leading cutting-edge research, academic programs, and projects to advance equitable, ecologically sound, and sustainable natural resource development, Julia will lead SDSG's efforts to build new partnerships, expand resources for Indigenous Peoples and other local communities as they navigate the impacts and benefits of natural resource development, and amplify support to governments, workers, and communities in the transition to a green economy.

In addition to her most recent role as Development & Communications Director for the Posner Center for International Development, Julia has led strategic development across a wide range of business domains from marketing to supply chain, global logistics, e-commerce, business intelligence, human resources, and information technology.

As a Peace Corps Response volunteer working for the United Nations World Food Programme, she spent a year building local capacity and improving field operations for food security, nutrition, and gender equity programs in the remote western Kankan region of Guinea in West Africa.

Julia also brings 20 years of experience with IBM in global management and executive leadership positions. With a focus on building emerging market capacity, Julia led IBM's business transformation and IT team in India and launched global programs in China, Eastern Europe, and Africa while developing local talent and promoting the advancement of women.

Julia holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and French from Macalester College, studying in France at the University of Toulon and University of Rennes, Business School.
