Emergency Need for Blood Donations at
Stanford Blood Center
Due to the current COVID-19 surge, Stanford Blood Center (SBC) is seeing a significant increase in cancellations, both on an individual basis as donors are falling ill, and on a blood drive basis as companies are restricting their visitor onsite policies. As a result, we are currently facing an emergency need for all blood types. With many of their regular donors out sick right now, SBC is asking for anyone who is healthy and eligible to please make an appointment as soon as possible.

Across the nation, the blood supply is at dangerously low supply levels, and that situation is impacting us here in the Bay Area as well. Currently, SBC has only a few days of blood on hand. At the same time, demand at the hospitals has increased and shows no signs of slowing down in the coming weeks.

Given the decrease in the availability of our usual donor community, it’s more imperative than ever that new blood donors come out to give for the first time. If new donors are unsure of their eligibility to give blood, they can reach out at 888-723-7831 or check our website at stanfordbloodcenter.org/eligibility.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Event
In partnership with San Mateo County Health, the City of Menlo Park hosts periodic household hazardous waste (HHW) events. The next event is Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm. Examples of HHW are batteries, paint and paint thinner, pesticides and fertilizers, and fluorescent lights. Menlo Park residents may drop off HHW free of charge by making an appointment. The exact address of the event will be provided once the appointment is finalized. There is a limit of 10 gallons or 50 pounds per appointment.

All waste collected is reused, recycled, or stabilized for proper disposal to achieve zero waste and prevent any items from going to the landfill and contaminating our water and soil. No radioactive, explosive, or medical waste. Please visit the County’s webpage for more information about acceptable HHW items.

  • What are the current COVID-19 requirements?
  • What is the relationship between hours worked and minimum wage?
  • Are your workplace postings up to date?
  • Are you up to date on prohibited provisions in employee severance agreements?
  • How has the law changed regarding employee arbitration agreements?
