Save the Date: Annual Meeting on February 23rd, 2023!
We will celebrate with our membership and community at the 119th Annual Meeting on February 23, 2023. This special program will kick off with a highlight of the Chamber's successful 2022 as well as an update on the programs and plans set for the upcoming year.
The evening will with an awards ceremony in which individuals and organizations who have made a significant impact in our community are recognized. Please consider nominating a community member for these awards!

LEAD Athens High Education Session Recap!

LEAD Athens had a great Higher Education Session on December 8th, 2022! They were able to tour and learn about Piedmont University, Athens Technical College, and The University of Georgia. They took a break during their busy day to grab lunch at Bolton Dining Commons on UGA's campus. Overall it was an informative session and our LEADers gained a greater understanding of the higher education available in Athens.

Welcome to the AACOC, SANE!
Since June of 2006, SANE has been conducting forensic examinations in the Athens-Clarke County Family Protection Center. SANE has recently opened another Family Protection Center in Morgan County and one will open soon in Bogart. We provide services at no cost to the victim’s family in accordance with state and federal laws. SANE works collaboratively with various law enforcement agencies, prosecutors’ offices, advocacy organizations and the Department of Family and Children Services in multiple counties.

Little Athens Children's Museum Announces New Director
Dr. Charlene Woodham Brickman joined the Little Athen’s Children’s Museum (Little Athens) as the new director in November of 2022. The former director, Leigh Ellen Magness, stepped down in order to focus on other professional and personal opportunities. Dr. Brickman’s experience in elementary education and her research in recess and play make her an ideal leader to guide this board of directors. She is a career educator with experience as a teacher, Title I facilitator, technology coordinator, assistant principal, school improvement specialist, and college instructor. Teaching in private and public schools and most places in between has provided her with a wide array of experiences. Dr. Brickman earned her Ph.D. from Auburn University in 2021 and her research centers on recess policy and the beliefs/ perceptions of those asked to implement these policies.
The Sparkle is Back! Festival of Trees Returns to Wesley Woods of Athens
Wesley Woods of Athens hosted their signature event, Festival of Trees, for the first time since 2019. Community guests were invited to tour resident apartments, enjoy desserts, sip coffee compliments of Jittery Joe’s and to relax to the sounds of holiday music with a live classical guitar performance.

Sami Johnson joins Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty as a licensed REALTOR® in residential properties.
 
Johnson, a native of Oconee County, attended Oconee County High School and after attended Athens Technical College. Most recently, she made the decision to begin real estate school and after completion of the course and taking the real estate exam, she is now a licensed REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker Upchurch Realty.

The Classic City Band of Athens Georgia will present their Winter Season Concert at UGA Hugh Hodgson Hall on Sunday, December 18th at 3:00 PM.
The Classic City Band, with the most players in its near half-century history, returns to the Hodgson Hall concert stage for a diverse collection of pieces from America and abroad, incorporating both traditional, classical music and new works by living composers, showing connections with each other across the world and across time. Admission to the concert is FREE as well as parking. A goodwill offering will be collected at the event. More information can be garnered at classiccityband.org
