You’ll want to take note of your home’s architectural style so your outdoor fixtures complement it. Also, large windows near the entrance that allow indoor light out affect how much light you’ll need for your entryway. A roof or covered porch over the entrance will similarly influence your outdoor entryway lighting plan.
Fourteenth Colony Hanging Gas Fixtures are perfect in both the entry porch as well as the upper balcony. Their style, while versatile, is a perfect compliment to this particular Victorian home.

Wall lights can be used in combination with ceiling lighting to fill in gaps in illumination, or on their own. Sizing of wall lights will be determined by the height of your door. If you are using one wall light, it should be approximately one-third the height of the door. With two lights, they should be approximately one-quarter the height of the door. In both cases they should be mounted so that the center of the lamp is 66 inches above the ground.

Things to keep in mind:
♦ Your lighting will appear about half the size from the street. So, your 12 inch light that looks o’kay in the showroom, will suddenly appear 6 inches from the street!

♦ When in doubt, go big and go eye level.

♦ Your entryway should be the focal point, so stay away from larger garage lights and let your door take center stage.

♦ It’s always good to test the size by hanging a piece of cardboard the same shape and size as your potential light fixture.

♦ Finally, many times lights come in families. It’s nice to buy lights for different areas of your exterior space that are similar but not exactly the same. For example, you can do a hanging wall lantern by the garage and thin wall mount by the doors. You don’t want a rooms to go kind of situation.
