Celebrating 12 Years of SDSG!
On March 20, 2019 we celebrated our 12th Anniversary! We enjoyed the opportunity to gather with our Board of Directors and colleagues to celebrate our history and vision for sustainable development.

Co-founded by Cecilia Dalupan and Luke Danielson , SDSG has become a leading institution working to advance sustainable development in the natural resources sector. We work across stakeholder groups with governments, companies, communities, and others to promote good governance of natural resources and to optimize opportunities to meet environmental, social, and economic objectives.

March 20th was the first day of spring, also known as the International Day of Nowruz, and is the International Day of Happiness. We reflected on the words of UN Secretary General António Guterres, who said that Nowruz "is a chance to reaffirm our commitment to peace, human rights and human dignity; to fostering dialogue and mutual respect; to protecting the planet and building a future that leaves no one behind." We can't think of more appropriate words to capture our commitment on our anniversary and every day!

SDSG Releases New Reports on a
Renewable Energy Future for Colorado Communities
Modern electric grid lines and renewable energy concept with photovoltaic panels and wind turbines
SDSG has published a two-part study to help citizens, businesses, and public officials understand the opportunities for development of more renewable electricity in 13 Colorado communities. Each of these communities have their own municipal utilities that distribute electricity provided by the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN) to residents and businesses.

MEAN is a public entity created under Nebraska law to provide electrical energy to municipalities. The legal agreements and policies that apply to members of the MEAN system in Colorado create some opportunities for the development of more renewable electrical supplies. They also create some barriers to incorporating renewables. Some of these issues are a result of the MEAN relationship while others are decisions of communities themselves.

The study reviews how the MEAN system works in the 13 Colorado municipalities and opportunities for developing more local generation of renewable power, either by municipalities or by their individual residential or commercial customers. Access the reports online now at https://www.sdsg.org/mean-study .
