REFORM Newsletter
Dear readers,

Welcome to the latest newsletter of the REFORM project: WE ARE BACK!

In the last couple of months, we were discussing, preparing and exchanging internally. We're glad to tell you that the cooperation among the partners of Central Macedonia (GR), Emilia-Romagna (IT) and Greater Manchester (UK) remained.

Since the implementation period of the last REFORM funding framework was highly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to use our project extension until the end of 2022 to exchange and share best practices of local COVID-19 resilience measures.

Some best practices range from sharing of traffic information (Emilia-Romagna & Greater Manchester), over sustainable tourism to the decommissioning of military barracks to provide more leisure areas close to the Mediterranean beach in Thessaloniki.

We are delighted to be back and looking forward presenting our local achievements to you!

Yours,

Dr. Maria Morfoulaki

2022: REFORM Regions remain strong!
Cooperation is key for TfGM
Transport for Greater Manchester aims to provide a better service for its users by offering sustainable trips to and from football matches and other events in Greater Manchester. Furthermore, trips to hospitals in the area are facilitated. First steps have been taken with several internal and external meetings to foster a cooperation.

Central Macedonia launched a citizens' survey
Central Macedonia launched an online questionnaire that is targeted at citizens to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on urban mobility.

Partner Updates
Institutional cooperation & colourful bus information
Emilia-Romagna counteracted the distrust in public transport solutions, such as buses and trains, by adapting rules and schedules of local train connections and by providing information on occupancy rates through a local trip planner app.

Enjoying sustainable tourism and sunshine instead of soldiers
Thessaloniki suffered from revenue losses from tourism. Thus, revitalisation of the tourism sector was supported by providing sustainable tourism packages through a mobile app. The transformation of former military barracks gave inhabitants the necessary space to enjoy the seaside, while being keeping social distances.

Jabs and the return of football fever
Manchester had to solve a significant problem: how to get nurses and patients from and to the hospitals safely? Providing traffic information on several platforms was one of the answers. A technique that was further utilised to promote sustainable transport from and to large events, such as football matches.
