Update on State and Federal COVID-19 Guidance

On Feb. 25, the state of Illinois and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made updates to their COVID-19 guidance that impact public and private schools. Governor Pritzker announced that he was withdrawing the executive order requiring students and staff to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He cited the continued improvement of the state’s metrics, as well as revised guidelines from the CDC that include:

Based on the CDC’s new criteria, the transmission level for DuPage County is currently low. While in low, the CDC recommends that people:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Get tested if they have symptoms.

As for face coverings while the transmission level is low, the CDC states that “people may choose to mask at any time.” However, the agency encourages masking for “people with symptoms, a positive test or exposure to someone with COVID-19.”

We will update the COVID-19 section of our website tomorrow to reflect this new guidance. In the meantime, we have made changes to our dashboard to help ensure that people have access to data that will enable them to make informed decisions about their specific health needs. Below are the metrics we plan to update on a weekly basis.

  • Transmission level in DuPage County.
  • Vaccination rates for District 86.
  • Positive case count for District 86.
  • Positivity rate for the District 86 community.
  • Weekly new case rate per 100,000 people in our local communities and DuPage County.

Automobile Regulations/Parking Reminders/Drop Off and Pick up

Students with parking permits must park in the designated student parking lot. Student parking is based on space-availability, on a first come, first serve basis each school day. Student parking in the Staff Parking Lot, including before and after school, is strictly prohibited.
  • Parking permits must be prominently displayed from your front window.
  • Unauthorized or illegally parked vehicles will be towed and/or the student may be subject to a police ticket.
  • Permits may be denied to students who have prior parking violations.
  • For safety reasons the staff and student parking lots should not be used to drop off or pick up students.

Anyone can make a nomination. The PTO presents six Make A Difference Awards each quarter. The awards include our thanks with a personalized certificate and a $50 gift card.

5 Essentials Survey

Hello Hinsdale Central Parents -

We Need Your Feedback!!!

Parents, students and teachers across Illinois will once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey.

To take this short survey:
  1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
  2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
  3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that affect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.

Parents will have until March 11th to participate in the survey.

PLEASE SUPPORT POST PROM 2022!

Fundraising & Volunteering for Post Prom
Senior Prom: April 30, 2022

Dear Hinsdale Central Families:
We are looking for donations, chaperones and volunteers from parents of FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS & SENIORS to support Post Prom. This communication will help you understand why we solicit from parents of underclassmen and why your help is needed.

Prom night consists of 2 events: Prom and Post Prom:

  • Prom (hosted by the school) is a formal dinner dance at the Field Museum
  • POST PROM (hosted by Parents)
  • A skyline cruise aboard The Odyssey immediately following the dance at the Field Museum - guests will be bussed from the Field Museum to Navy Pier to board the Odyssey
  • Dancing, karaoke and refreshments are provided during the chaperoned 5-star cruise.
  • Hinsdale Police and Parent volunteers chaperone.
  • Following, students board busses back to Hinsdale Central, arriving home around 3 a.m.
PLEASE CLICK HERE TO MAKE A DONATION AND/OR VOLUNTEER: https://hcpto.org/post-prom-donation/

PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION:
  • Our fundraising goal is $30,000
  • Our goal is to keep the cost of Post Prom at $45, depending on our fundraising success
  • Traditionally over 95% of Prom goers attend Post Prom
  • This fundraising covers approximately half of the ACTUAL Odyssey ticket price and allows us to keep this ticket price low at $45
  • This budget fully pays for students who aren’t able to afford a ticket
  • Donated funds underwrite costs for the classes ’23, ’24 & ’25
  • Our committee hasn’t had a fundraising campaign since 2019 due to Covid. However last year we supported 2 events using funds from our reserves; consequently our reserves need to be replenished!
  • 1/2 of the ticket price for the Class of 2021 Graduation Party Cruise on the Odyssey
  • 100% of the funding toward the gift baskets that were raffled at the 2021 Prom.

PLEASE VOLUNTEER AS A POST PROM CHAPERONE:
  • Chaperones meet at Hinsdale Central at 10:30 pm and are bussed downtown
  • Chaperones manage Odyssey student check in and walk around to make sure everyone is safely having a great time.
  • Everyone boards the busses around 2:30 am to return to Hinsdale Central
  • Grab some friends and volunteer - it’s a fun sneak peek to Prom!
  • 4 - 5 Hinsdale Police Officers also chaperone
  • The cost of the chaperone transportation and Odyssey ticket is covered by Post Prom

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO MAKE A DONATION AND/OR VOLUNTEER: https://hcpto.org/post-prom-donation/

Thank you for supporting this amazing tradition!
