What is heart disease?
The term “heart disease” refers to several types of heart conditions. The most common type of heart disease in the United States is coronary artery disease (CAD), which affects the blood flow to the heart. Decreased blood flow can cause a heart attack. For more information, click here
What are the symptoms of heart disease?
Sometimes heart disease may be “silent” and not diagnosed until a person experiences signs or symptoms of a heart attack, heart failure, or an arrhythmia. 
Symptoms may include:
  • Heart attack: Chest pain or discomfort, upper back or neck pain, indigestion, heartburn, nausea or vomiting, extreme fatigue, upper body discomfort, dizziness, and shortness of breath.
  • Arrhythmia: Fluttering feelings in the chest (palpitations).
  • Heart failure: Shortness of breath, fatigue, or swelling of the feet, ankles, legs, abdomen, or neck veins.

COVID, Heart Disease and Oral Health
Did you know?
  • Individuals with cardiovascular disease experience greater severity of COVID-19 illness and longer recovery times in the presence of poor oral health.
  • If you have heart disease, regular dental cleanings, exams and the use of antimicrobial mouthwash will improve your symptoms and recovery time if you get COVID-19. For more information, click here

  Blackstone Valley Community Health Care accepts most major Rhode Island insurance plans including Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, and United Healthcare. We also accept RIte Care, RIte Share, Medicaid, & Medicare members.

No Insurance? No worries!

BVCHC uses a sliding fee scale to offer services for qualified patients who do not have health insurance. For more information, click here
  • No patient is denied based on their ability to pay
  • You may be qualified for discounted services or a monthly payment plan 
  • You can apply for the sliding for the sliding fee discount with your income and family size. 
  • Our sliding fee offers a nominal fee for those who qualify based on federal guidelines

COVID-19 Operations at BVCHC
Masks
Masks are still required at all Healthcare facilities per the Rhode Island Department of Health., including Blackstone Community Health Care

Screening 
Anyone that enters a Blackstone Valley Community Health Care site will be screened at the front desk for COVID. 

Visitors
At this time, we ask that children and patients with disabilities who require assistance from a caregiver bring one visitor. We ask that you limit bringing others with your to your appointment to keep everyone as safe as possible. For more information, click here
Don't Forget to Keep Your Appointment
While Blackstone Valley Community Health Care does not charge you for missed appointments, there is a strict No-Show Policy. Three missed appointments in row may result in not being able to schedule an appointment until you have spoken to the manager. 

*Note: We are going to call you a day in advance to confirm your appointment as well as on the day of your appointment to confirm. It is important to call us back to confirm.
