A MONTHLY PUBLICATION June 2022 | Issue 6

A WORD FROM OUR CEO

Welcome to the AMSGazette’s sixth issue – we’re glad you’re here!

This month we bid farewell to Mr. Doug Doerr, who, following his retirement after 20 years of service as a Marine Aviator, spent another 20 years providing Contract Support to the Marine Corps.

We also highlight two exceptional employees: Mr. Robert Anderson, a SharePoint developer with 15 years of experience managing SharePoint environments; and Mr. Jeff Gerner, our VA Account Manager, who climbs rocks and 6,000-foot-tall mountains in his spare time. In, “A Day in the Life of a VA Acquisition Academy SharePoint Developer”, Robert details a typical day at one of the Federal government’s leading training academies; and Jeff regales us with stories about conquering fear through rock climbing in “We Grow the Most When We’re Put in Precarious Situations”.

To say I am lucky to have such a diverse and talented group of individuals who make up the fabric of AMSG is an understatement. We hope you enjoy this month’s issue. We thank you for taking the time to read up on AMSG, and as always, we welcome your input. Feel free to email us at amessenger@amsgcorp.netwith ideas, news, or even just to say hello; and share our newsletter with colleagues you think might want to learn about what is happening at AMSG and in the government contracting industry right now.

Have a wonderful month and cheers to a great summer!

Best,

Climber Jeff Gerner on Conquering Life’s Fears Through Rock Climbing

Written by: Jeff Gerner, Project Manager (Pictured) & Juania Owens, Investment Analyst Team Lead

British Philosopher Bertrand Russell once said that “to conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom”, and while fear is “a vital response to physical and emotional danger”, facing fear releases the power it has over us so that we can achieve important goals we set for ourselves.

That’s how Jeff Gerner, AMSG’s VA Account Director and Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) Program, Planning, and Oversight (PPO) Support Services Project Manager, views it. In his spare time, Gerner climbs rocks and mountains, and having climbed up to 300-foot spires jutting from the earth and Alpine routes on 6,000 foot tall mountains, you would never guess, but Gerner is afraid of heights.

Read more about Jeff's climbing below.
